Yeah, but what this is really targeting is people who set it and forget it. This way, if you get distracted and go a month or two, or ten, they are still getting $30 a month from you. Yes, you can buy those plugins, but now you have to find ones that you want.mr_pitch33 wrote: Fri Apr 08, 2022 10:47 pm
I think no one buy their plugs at full price knowing their marketing strategy,so this is nothing different that buy their vst at $29.99 but wanting them early with an extra $1 , this is market guys and they are always the winners![]()
Also, this helps you get accustomed to a subscription. Now, at some convenient time in the future, say aligned with a Mac OS upgrade, their policy changes. Updates become subscription only. Of course you are free to use your old plugins with the old OS, until things stop working.
The more people that they can get to buy into subscriptions, even temporarily, the better it is for subscriptions long term.

Yep. Exactly. My new cutoff is $20 per plugin. Or I don't bother. Have too much already.
Edit: Which reminds me. The Bute limiter 2 for $19 is the only thing I'm looking at currently.

All of this PA subscription talk reminds me of another popular plugin company out there who offers most of their plugins for $29 from time to time, always has blowout sales on top of that, but pushes you towards a monthly subscription to get updates. Wonder if PA is just working towards a similar business strategy to compete.

My mention of a "PAUP" (in analogy to the infamous WUP) was only half-joking, I wouldn't be surprised if they came up with sonething like that sooner or later.Teebacca wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 12:41 amAll of this PA subscription talk reminds me of another popular plugin company out there who offers most of their plugins for $29 from time to time, always has blowout sales on top of that, but pushes you towards a monthly subscription to get updates. Otoh, plugins like Thorn, Sculpt, MetricAB, Byome/Triad, Knifonium and a bunch of others are well worth their money imho (while I scroll rather quickly over the tons of EQs, compressors and amp sims).

Does that make people who subscribe to the PAUP into PAUP-ers?epiphaneia wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 1:06 amMy mention of a "PAUP" (in analogy to the infamous WUP) was only half-joking, I wouldn't be surprised if they came up with sonething like that sooner or later.Teebacca wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 12:41 amAll of this PA subscription talk reminds me of another popular plugin company out there who offers most of their plugins for $29 from time to time, always has blowout sales on top of that, but pushes you towards a monthly subscription to get updates. A well-behaved signature.

I haven't been following this thread intimately but wouldn't anyone be able to do this? Subscribe, buy the plug then cancel? Doesn't this just mean every plugin is now $31, only restriction is you can only get one a month?goldenanalog wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 11:05 am As an example: When PA finally releases a new software synth based on their acquisition of Wolfgang Palms’ PPG IP, will I as a subscriber be able to buy the brand-spanking-new software synthesizer for just $31?

Yes, if they present any of their plugins from now on as having an RRP over $31 then it's a lie.

From the “Forever 29” marketing page
https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/prod ... moRByRoO9A
“WHAT ARE PA'S BENEFITS?
-We generate reliable, steady revenue from your monthly plan.
-We generate more revenue with newer plugins earlier.”
At first glance, “Reliable” seems a bit ironic considering the option to cancel immediately after purchase. It’s either too good to be true or PA knows exactly what they’re doing and is miles ahead of everyone else in their business tactics

Based on the PA site for FOREVER 29, yes….anyone can buy this and anyone can buy multiple FOREVER 29 plans in a month, so not restricted to only one per month.GaryG wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 12:37 pmI haven't been following this thread intimately but wouldn't anyone be able to do this? lol at the idea of "Pile it high, sell it cheap" being presented as a novel 7D chess move.

At second thought, I´d guess it´s the latter: If their $29-deals weren´t sustainable, their near-continuous sales would have driven them out of business long ago. 90+% of their sales must be at 29$-a-piece already, and they keep sending out vouchers and they keep coming up with new plugins.Teebacca wrote: Sun Apr 10, 2022 1:09 pm At first glance, “Reliable” seems a bit ironic considering the option to cancel immediately after purchase. Therefore, selling tons of licenses at $29 does seem to generate more revenue than selling a handful of licenses at $199, especially when completely eliminating the second-hand-market as a side effect.
They´re surely smart enough to know that the $29-forever-thing works for roughly a year, until most "subscribers" own all PA-plugins they like but don´t own yet, which for a lot of people (insert Gauss curve here) may be somewhere between 5-10.
That´s when they´ll have to introduce their next sales strategy, and if they manage to increase the number of sold licenses quite a bit with their $29-thing, this would be the right moment to introduce their "PAUP".

There is speculation that PA is doing this now in response to the recent move for UAD to native plugin versions. This may keep some customers that would otherwise jump from the PA ship.
It will be interesting to see if UAD is able to release native versions of plugins for companies that belong to the PA banner.
No matter the reason, well played by PA. This allows them to keep their present structure in place with the ability to adapt / change options and still access those that have most plugins and therefore didn’t want or like a sub plan, and also generates capital sooner from those that wanted the newest release but would wait for a sale. Of course, some will still hold out to get it for less, however this allows PA to retain those folks by still doing vouchers, too.
I also agree as stated here in prior posts that PA is surely counting on many that sign up to just let there monthly plan roll with the thought they can hold the $1 codes until something does come up thereby paying more monthly than the MEGA sub brings in.
The name FOREVER 29 is somewhat misleading, though. Makes one think, “only $29” so less than Waves and other competitors, when it is actually more at $29.99 + $1.
