I had no idea a SD card was an option these days for use as a hard drive equivalent - is it fast enough for sample storage?

I've never used one for that either, maybe Uncle E will answer. I was trying to find out where he bought it for that cheap.

Yes. Maybe someone using big orchestral libraries might run into trouble but I can't imagine it being any slower than a spinning drive.aMUSEd wrote: Tue Aug 20, 2024 10:16 pm I had no idea a SD card was an option these days for use as a hard drive equivalent - is it fast enough for sample storage?

That totally depends on how the SD card is connected to your computer and the type of SD card you're using. Theoretical maximum values printed on the card are far from what you get in real world and with that I'd suggest to check different cards before sticking with one.Uncle E wrote: Wed Aug 21, 2024 1:35 amYes. .... overall I would go for an external SSD on USB3 over an SD card any day.

Yes, agreed that SSD would be better. I'm using it in my MacBook Pro's port, with non-orchestral libraries, and it's been fine for me.Nobdi wrote: Wed Aug 21, 2024 8:42 am That totally depends on how the SD card is connected to your computer and the type of SD card you're using. I use SD cards on some systems where it's the only way to expand that system. They work decently, but they do fail far quicker than a SSD. Make sure anything you have on them is fully backed up.

@Uncle E - do you expect another Synapse Audio sale like August last year?Uncle E wrote: Wed Aug 21, 2024 5:19 pmYes, agreed that SSD would be better. UVI Vintage Vault 4 - $299/199$ upgrade from a single product/$149 upgrade for previous VV owners.
https://www.uvi.net/en/vintage-synth/vi ... de-sp.html
Until September 2nd.
I have UVI freebies and they are great, but in these times I am not sure if sampling synths (even rare ones) is the future. They sure sound good, but the whole collection is 280 GB total. Plus not clear what Imagine Line (owners of UVI) might do in the future (IL previously sold VST plugins and then stopped supporting them and removed them from the store).

I just love IK Multimedia. They email me an offer that I can get $150 off Amplitube/Tonex max and Axe I/O but I can't use my jampoints that is about the same amount. I have more than 300 unused jampoint because they haven't had any good deals in ages when you consider they put 25% VAT on top op everything (in my case).
So the offer is actually of no use and was just a waste of time. Why do they come up with these offers that just pisses the customer off? Does IK management think that people are imbecile.

On the other hand, the $50 T-Racks sale is great for people like me. Install it, use it for a few years, then next steps.

I don't believe that SSD connected to USB 3.0 externally is that much faster than a SD Card with Read/Write speed of theoretically > 200MB/150MB. And the advantage of this is that you dont need any extra cables or space on your desk. Its totally portable.Nobdi wrote: Wed Aug 21, 2024 8:42 amThat totally depends on how the SD card is connected to your computer and the type of SD card you're using. Yes maybe. But I might only get this offer (I don't know) because I have a lot of jampoints which I then can't use.ralfrobert wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 5:01 pmI guess some will go for it.Hans25 wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 4:31 pm I just love IK Multimedia. If anyone want the code say so.
