Better is subjective, so let's not step into that minefield, but competitors like Newfangled Audio, Brainworx, and Sonible come to mind.ChamomileShark wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 9:51 am * what intelligent limiters/ maximisers are out there that are better?

Upgrade sparingly is the key.ChamomileShark wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 9:51 am with this discussion about Izotope I've jumped ship from RX to Spectral Layers via a crossgrade. I started my Izotope journey with Ozone 4, have updated that numerous times. Also Neutron although I realised by version 3 that I don't like what the AI part of it does and without that available I'd prefer my mixing chain to be done on individual plugins, not neutron. I had the EA reverbs, watched them go to Izotope and then paid for upgrades to Nimbus & R4.
What I don't like is that several times I've had to buy new versions outright because they are cheaper than the upgrades. I know it's not logical but that just seems wasteful.
I've also seen expensive plugins get massively reduced or given away and then abandoned.
I'll continue with Ozone and upgrade sparingly unless I can find another product with an AI assistant* but otherwise they've sort of ruined the buying experience with them.

@ telecharge - thanks I'll have a look at those, the Sonible limiter looks particularly appealing and a at a good price.
@ UncleE, yes I've been updating it sparingly but I still spend a year or so wondering, "is this the best deal right now?" and it's so random it's hard to know.

Many will agree with you there, thinking of iZotope, that is.
Better even, timing those upgrades with that old good iZotopian custom of distributing discount codes...
Not sure if they are still happening, but coupons allowed me to jump up to the (then) expensive Advanced/Bundle iZotope level, (via a crossgrade from RX standard)
At mid 2010s, I'd been eyeing RX Advanced for several years already, but its $400 entry price (at its highest discount) placed it at hardware price territory, forbidden for any kind of software, which left me watching it from the shop's outside.
Meanwhile, purchased a good offer for RX standard version upgrade, that I actually bought from your JRRShop Uncle E!, but somehow left waiting without applying it. Time passed and a new RX version came out, so I emailed iZotope sales. They soon replied that; No, nothing they could do to upgrade my yet unused upgrade. However, the very gentle agent, gave me a %50 discount coupon! That I carefully stored.
Months later, the expected $400 sale price was published for RX Advanced's upgrade, and thus, its resulting $200 price would still be expensive for me, but if well timed, attainable.
And so it did! Except, just before clicking on the checkout button, saw that there was a PPS bundle crossgrade offer for $500, that after my %50 coupon, translated into $250, which in account of all the added software, naturally I fell for (and dried my budget for quite some time).
I was happy then! and felt compensated for those expensive early (IRIS!!) plugins that I bought but had their price severely reduced for no reason, not long from buying them.
In the past, there were various % discount coupons been issued and appearing at different channels/shops. Do not know if such policy coninues after Native Instruments acquisition, but in several ways (increasing loyalty, bringing back/new customers, etc) no doubt it will be positive for iZotope and welcomed by us customers.

The best deal is usually right before the next version comes out. I use RX 11 exactly the same way as I used RX 7 so being a year behind doesn't bother me.ChamomileShark wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 6:53 pm @ UncleE, yes I've been updating it sparingly but I still spend a year or so wondering, "is this the best deal right now?" and it's so random it's hard to know.

Unc I know that BFD3 is already at a low price, but do they offer any discounts on the upgrade from BFD2?Uncle E wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 7:00 pmThe best deal is usually right before the next version comes out. I'm sorry, I don't know. They don't have the upgrade available on their dealer page.Sindikhate wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 7:51 pm Unc I know that BFD3 is already at a low price, but do they offer any discounts on the upgrade from BFD2?

BFD 3 (and 3.5 that brought vst3) was initially launched with a time limited upgrade discount of $49 from earlier versions. Then this offer was repeatedly brought back.Sindikhate wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 7:51 pm Unc I know that BFD3 is already at a low price, but do they offer any discounts on the upgrade from BFD2?
After BDF Player release time (instant compatible with several Alexis Drumkits, but a different software altogether), BFD3 has sort of stayed available at that price from several vendors.
Now, early at this BF cycle, it's been available at $39, while libraries have been kept at higher prices ($29 minimum) than past offers. This seems to be the new BFD and extensions long term new pricing policy (on sales).

You need to own an Eventide or Newfangled plugin to be eligible.
