Keep in mind this is just an sketch idea i'm working on nothing final.
I'm curious: what settings do you tend to use on drums? This compressor is so snappy - it sounds nice and punchy - but I tend to wind up with increased peaks once I get them sounding the way I want, and need to put a limiter on the main bus. Here's a sample where I used the FF compressor on all the drum channels and bass guitar:

I dig the sound, but I worry about the increased peaks. I'm probably not used to using a dbx-style compressor.

Ah! Well, there you go: my instinct was to put a limiter, comp or sat on the drum bus (usually do anyway). It's just so snappy! Kick in = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (kick attack/impact thud)
Kick out = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (Kick Boom)
Snare Top = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (Snare Body)
Snare Bottom = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (Snare crack)
Tom 1 = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (hard pan R)
Tom 2 = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (pan R)
Tom 3 = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (pan L)
Tom 4 = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (hard pan L)
Hat = FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (hard pan R)
Ride = FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (hard pan L)
Overhead L = Overhead Buss (hard pan)
Overhead R = Overhead Buss (hard pan)
Overhead Buss = FBComp, EQ, Drum Buss
Drum Buss = FFComp/Tape Saturation, 100% send to Parallel Drum Comp buss
Parallel Drum Comp buss = squashed FF or FB Comp. Depends.
With 32/64bit internal i don't worry about individual drum track peaks to much. Everything get routed to the Drum buss with the comp/tape saturation. That catches the peaks.
