The interface of Zebra 2 does not do its sound justice.

I have been playing with Zebra2 demo for a few weeks here and there. The only thing that really bugs me is the text. Zebra2 text looks really fuzzy compared to the sharp text in FM8 or Massive. It would be nice to have the option to turn off whatever font smoothing algorithm Zebra uses as a savable preference.

I've always thought it clever how Zebra 2's interface packs such a huge amount of modular functionality into a deceptively simple interface.
Perhaps it's not the interface that newcomers find daunting so much as the power of the synth itself.
There are a few idiosyncracies, like not giving basic switchable saw or square waveforms, but it's not done to be churlish of different for the sake of it, but because the Zebra waveform system offers much more waveform shaping possibilities.
It does need a little work to figure out how the basic idea of how it works, but not much, especially given the power of synth engine. Once the basic idea is grasped you're away...
Personally I love the interface. It's elegant and simple when taking into account the vast flexibility available.
cheers,

+1 A nice bright red (or whatever) outline would be greatMy main turn-offs:
- it's hard to see which module is selected, even if it changes hue a little bit. Why not some red line around the selected module?
- it's not very easy to see which knob text belongs to which knob, especially in the FX section.

Here's a tweeked version of Unempty Dark Horse, with a brighter highlight (sorry, not red...) that I'm currently using.
For PC, rename the file Program Files/u-he/Support/Themes/Unempty Dark Horse/Scripts/Zebra2.txt to something like Zebra2Untweeked.txt (in case you want to go back to the original). Then copy this new Zebra2.txt file into the same location.

Not sure how this works on a mac.

The only part of the Zebra interface I don't like is the arpeggiator. Too cramped and fiddly - something more graphical like the one in Omnisphere would be better (and with preset patterns).

Can you post a screenshot? No Omni demo so I cannot see what you mean. What don't you like about the Zebra arp?aMUSEd wrote:The only part of the Zebra interface I don't like is the arpeggiator.
