Greetings; Due to an already jammed packed VSTi folder, i'm way, way picky about buying new softsynths, but i decided to get Cyclops after 10 minutes of playing around with the demo.
Some incredible, unique sounds coming out of this synth, and i had to trash a bunch of presets this morning due to not being able to save with the demo, but i know it'll be easy to come up w/ other great things with Cyclop.
I don't think i've ever submitted a feature request for anything before, but here goes:
It's hard to work with the tiny step sequencer; some way of expanding the view would be awesome (fuzzy eyesight!). Also, some way of entering discrete, specific values would also be awesome.
Same goes for the recording screens -- for instance, if i want to use, say, the wobble generator or LFO to modulate master pitch, it would be great if it were possible to set the modulation bars to discrete values. And if i could zero the bars by double clicking on them, that would help alot too.
Another great feature would be a button to generate random setting for the step sequencer and recording screens (ie. that would allow for 144-sep randomized sequences using the 'Sound' source, wow!). For that matter, a random LFO waveform would be nice.
Anyhow, i don't want to give the impression i'm dissatisfied with Cyclops -- i love it and i'm going to be investing alot of time in it, for sure.
As an aside, i'm usually slow to figure out 'out-there' soft synths, but one skim through the manual, and i found it fairly ez to come to grips with. I wasn;t so sure about the FX blocks at first, but i've come to like them alot -- they add alot of variation and enhanced sound mangling without having to delve deeply into another bunch of parameters. More standard delay and modulation effects can be done with external plugins.
Kind of the same thing with oscillator settings -- thought more were needed on first sight, but i quickly to think that the level of detail is fine. Powerful enough to get an incredible array of unique sounds, without getting bogged down in too much detail (i'm the kind of person who had an FS1R, K5000, things like that, and never really got all that far under the hood).
regards
Glenn

Hey Rico,
I've been coming across this consistantly now, and thought it's worth posting. I'm on os x 10.6.8, and have now found the same behaviour in Reaper and Ableton, with Cyclop as an AU and Vst.
Basically after a project has been open for a while with Cyclop loaded, there is some sort of signal that gets generated. The synth still sounds fine, but there is a consistant sub-frequency that doesn't change. Turning off and on the synth does get rid of it though. Here is how it looks in Reaper

I don't know if this would be some sort of memory leak, or bug, though I thought I'd mention is as it doesn't seems intentional

i found a bug in the latest version (Studio One V2, 64 bit): the first click with the middle mouse button in the effects grid works nice. the second click conjures an error message.
really liking cyclops so far, but finding it hard to put in a mix of anything not dubstep/industrial sounding.

Hey, the bug is known and will be fixed in the first official update.cyphersuit wrote:i found a bug in the latest version (Studio One V2, 64 bit): the first click with the middle mouse button in the effects grid works nice. the second click conjures an error message.

I just used Cyclop as a pulsing bass(not too upfront) in a ballad, worked nicely
@gwok, I will track this down! Can you send me the preset to info@ please?
best

Hi,
I believe that cyclop is not intended to be like other synth with a classic modulation matrix and all the stuff but I'm surprised I cannot find any way to modulate parameters through modulation wheel (ok I can midi learn) or - more important for me and for the expressiveness (wow, does this word exist?) - aftertouch.
Three solutions:
1. It's there but I tried Cyclop too late in the night and I missed it
2. It's not there and it will never be!
3. It's not there but Sugar Bytes team can't sleep at night because they just forgot it and it's in the way
Anyway this synth is great!
Cheers,
Ben

Learn the modwheel to the Sound Knob. Then assign the Sound Knob as you like.benaben wrote:Hi,

That way you can use the modwheel as a modulation source.

Is there a release date set for the new update?

I like everything that Cyclops does... but there's a harsh high frequency sound to it I can't seem to really dial out and still have it sound bright. It's not like the "Massive" plastic kind of sound big in dubstep... but more lo-fi like maybe aliasing or something. Turning distortion off doesn't fix it. Is it possible to have a higher quality audio engine setting?

Can you strip this down to an oscillator type? If it's the spectromat, this one is capable of high frequencies but you can deactivate the higher partials (32 buttons below the partials window).zerocrossing wrote:I like everything that Cyclops does... but there's a harsh high frequency sound to it I can't seem to really dial out and still have it sound bright...
With the Analog Sync you can create very high freq when the "Sync Freq" is too high. You can smooth out the sound by deactivating the RAW button (which is in fact an Anti Anti Alias button).
Phase Stressor is capable of brutal phase distortion which can lead to trashy spectrum. There just be careful with the Mod and Selfmod controls.
Oversampling is at work already. Hope that helps,
Rico

Thanks, I'll try that. It didn't seem to be related to osc type... I was just going though the presets and it seemed like almost all of them had a kind of harshness to them... maybe it's just the nature of this beast.Sugar Bytes wrote:Can you strip this down to an oscillator type? hey,
Maybe\hopefully I'm missing something obvious, as I'm having difficulty with hotkeys and the wobble knob. It's not storing the value\rate of the knob, nor the waveform settings. Though hotkey 12 seems to do some random changes
Maybe there's a wobble\hotkey setting that I'm missing - here's a vid of what I'm doing - and the settings not being saved (except hotkey 12)
http://imageshack.us/clip/my-videos/11/15og.mp4/
Also, how do assign some sort of controller to the hotkeys? I can only seem to change them with the mouse. I can't "learn' them, as well they don't come up in Ableton as "config" parameters
thanks

Hi,
That means you can trigger the hotkeys either when playing by using this keys or by doing some automation by recording inputs on the keys from C-2 to C-1.
Maybe you just have to shift the octave on your controller to be able to reach these notes.
Ben
the hotkeys are representing notes C-2 to C-1, so they are already mapped to keys on your midi keyboard (see how the keys in cyclop switch on when you play on your keyboard? this is the same for the hotkeys). Also, how do assign some sort of controller to the hotkeys? I can only seem to change them with the mouse. I can't "learn' them, as well they don't come up in Ableton as "config" parameters
