You are one of the people who really enjoy doing this kind of work. Great! I would rather go to a museum or to the movies. People can be very different from each other.

Have fun. I always like to read about things at u-he, by the way.

Well, I kind of have to sit at my desk for a few hours every day, and doing a few fun things in-between still counts as "work", somehow. OTOH our office is a museum, kind of, as it does feature a plethora of vintage synthesizers...

Have you got a visitors' day? Open u-he day? I would love that. :)

They wouldn't happen to be multi-stage envelopes, would they? :)

Post

@muki Yeah... been listening to the Cat a lot lately (I wonder why...?), but still undecided about my interest in working on it.

@osofaux not multi-staged, but somewhat crazy poly stuff. These envelopes use analogue oscillators (!) to control the rate of the stages, one for A, D and R each, which are shared by the voices. These analogue oscillators are then turned into clock signals - pretty much made digital. Those signals are used in individual track-and-hold circuits on the voice boards... almost similar to PCM. Funky stuff. Digital but not quite so digital. And also interesting relations between the voices. A lot of potential for parametrisation of character.

Is there any preset compatabilty between Podolski and FilterscapeVA? If not, would that be a possible new feature to FilterscapeVA without costing tons of man-hours?
Enjoy the weekend, and stay 8)

I seem to remember making some Podolski patches and them working in Filterscape VA ages ago so think so - mostly

Post

Thanks for mentioning that, I'll give some a try tonight!

So far, so good. The Podolski presets seem to load fine, and don't sound like anything is missing or twisted  Your Hibernian preset is very nice, among many others.

I did have to load the Filterscape before loading the FilterscapeVA, to avoid a segfault crash, but that's probably some wierd linux thing. Nice to have Podolski presets available when considering the FilterscapeVA demo. The presets in the numbered folers, 01-07 all pop up an version mismatch warning, but the sounds seem to work fine, and it's just an extra click to dismiss it. I do have the newest versions on the U-he website.

Yes, of course, the current Podolski release is much newer than the current Filterscape version.
So it will warn you about presets created with a much newer version.

In general, Podolski presets can be loaded in FilterscapeVA, but not vice versa.
They will most likely not sound absolutely identical, so you might have to adjust things like tuning and filters a bit.

That makes Podolski a bit like a sound design skin for FilterscapeVA 8)
So far none of the presets outside of those numbered folders produce the message. I wonder if it would be hard to code a config option to suppress such messages, or ignore the age of the plugin or preset, whatevever might be going on under the hood to make the message appear? I'll fiddle around some when I get my car through the DEQ exhaust-quality test later today.

you just need a script to remove or alter the revision number saved in the preset.

Or just resave the preset inside FilterscapeVA.
