Any plans to update filterscape? Such a cool plugin, could use a UI refresh and some new filter code from diva, repro etc...

Post

Of course we want to update it. There have been a few intial designs for a make over, but nothing overly far.

Unfortunately we had to spend the past few years with a lot of stupid stuff (formats, operating systems, tedious things), and we had to release new stuff instead of updating the old. I hope the next two to three years we can do all those make overs that we always wanted to do, but never could.

The problem is, the more products that you have, the more products need to be maintained and updated. And you need to keep creating new products to keep revenue rolling in. Without an increase in staffing, the more difficult it will be to keep up. So, I feel for Urs and the team.

Yep, it's complicated.

I used to distinguish between plug-ins which need a lot of maintenance and those which don't. Filterscape and MFM2 were always easy going, but then came Diva and The Dark Zebra and the necessity to expand the team. Meanwhile they (Fs + MFM) really need an update, but it's difficult to get there. Especially as some of the newer plug-ins had required "a second release": Turning Bazille alpha to 1.0 was strenuous effort, Presswerk got the Views-update, Repro got the initial alpha and then the poly version, Hive got wavetables and now some extra TLC.

I'm not even sure if my staff (apart from Tas) ever understood what Filterscape can do. I think with little effort it could shine again, it just needs some filter options, a ui makeover and a bunch of demo videos. I even think that FilterscapeVA, while pre-dating the Complextro movement, would be a brilliant synth for that kind of style, it just needs an FX upgrade (and a limiter... definitely a limiter).

However, we need to focus on Hive, Uhbik and Zebra now, and there's also a little piece of hardware on the horizon.

I think Filterscape’s misstep is that it wasn’t more marketed as a synth, because it really is an interesting synth plugin. I’d love an update, but I get the reality of development. I wonder if it would make more sense to abandon it in terms of new features/versions, and fold the current functionality into Zebra 3, because that would f’n rock.

That said, it’s still an excellent plugin and it works fine.

When I revisited FS recently, I was quite surprised how different it sounded to our other stuff. The snapshot EQ indeed makes for quite some unique movement. That said, I don't think it fits the Z3 set of ideas. There will be stuff which has similar tasks (resonators), but I don't think I'd go so complex as to have individual modulations for each snapshot, or more than 4 snapshots anyway. That's something I'd rather keep in its own focussed space, and that I guess is the core of Filterscape.

No worries. It's a little Eurorack utility module which I also desperately want for myself.

Little piece of hardware? Sounds interesting :D

I am curious about Filterscape. I am not sure what it's capable of. Is it something like Output Movement perhaps? When I checked Youtube there is basically nothing posted about Filterscape. I realize I could jump directly to demo it myself but normally my first introduction to plugs comes in the form of videos.

I only just now found out that it includes a synth version.

Having been in on the beta of Filterscape, I've been waiting for you to come around to showing it some love again. The GUI is so tiny on my standard HD 27" monitor I really couldn't imagine what it would look like on a 4k set up! :o

Oddly enough I just opened it up today and still like the sound of it for sure, but the GUI is tiny these days, at least an update to that is called for. I would be willing to bet a v2 version with a resizable GUI would sell well!

The current version surely has a resizable UI? - Upon right-click into any space?

Yes, it's resizeable, but doesn't have 200% assets so it upscales to blurriness :(

I really love FS a lot and would gladly pay to upgrade. Of course that may not make sense since the upgrade would help sell more original copies I imagine and I know its more about time constraints. Resonators would be a dream come true.

I still use your awesome skin. It's been like a year or two now since you mentioned it to me. Good work on that!
