Speaking of bottom notes, I have had problems emulating
this famous Moog bass line with all the emu's I've tried. The top end is not a problem but getting the warmth and depth of Worrell's bassline has been a difficult task.
I challenge anyone to recreate this funk sound and post a clip for comparison.

Something to consider with sounds taken from recordings is are you hearing a raw Mini or a Mini through a Neve, etc (i.e. BetterThanLife)...crimsontider wrote:Speaking of bottom notes, I have had problems emulating

For those that dis the MiniMoog, you gotta at least give it credit for it's bass prowness.seamoss wrote:there was definitely some harware compression on that moogMadGav wrote:Something to consider with sounds taken from recordings is are you hearing a raw Mini or a Mini through a Neve, etc (i.e. BetterThanLife)...crimsontider wrote:Speaking of bottom notes, I have had problems emulating

Ok, I admit that I didn't read every post on this thread. BUT - I do own a real minimoog & of course it sounds better than any software. That being said, I also own both the minimoog V & the Minimonsta. I think they both sound great. I will give a very slight edge to the minimoog V - probably because I got it before the Minimonsta. Really, it depends on you. Use what you have & be happy that we are living in a time where all this wonderful software & technology exists!

You can get pretty damn close to a dry sound version with Minimoog V. But I'm still trying to get THAT exact result!crimsontider wrote:Speaking of bottom notes, I have had problems emulating

Minimoog V gets high points for bass.crimsontider wrote:For those that dis the MiniMoog, you gotta at least give it credit for it's bass prowness.seamoss wrote:there was definitely some harware compression on that moogMadGav wrote:Something to consider with sounds taken from recordings is are you hearing a raw Mini or a Mini through a Neve, etc (i.e. BetterThanLife)...crimsontider wrote:Speaking of bottom notes, I have had problems emulating

But Minimonsta gets some credit for everything else it seems.

And here comes the Minimax:Spaceman Sounds wrote: Ok try this, previouse file was 24bit...have changed this to 16bit 44khz. This is with no eq or comp, straight from the Mini Moog.

Couldn't resist...
Hey Spaceman Sounds, I'm in the mood of making some more... Make some Mini recordings where you think it is hard to match.
Especially, I would be interested in some brassy sounds with medium resonance and some clicky low basses. Not sure yet, how well the Minimax performs in these realms.

Uh ? time to upload ( again ! ) my poor Minimax demo now I won't delete it ... in case
It just shows some real time only mouse & modwheel / aftertouch abuse, dry and no FX added though a little close to clipping at times.
It's not funky * at all * + I love filter FM apparently
I have no idea it's a good emulation !
On overall wide sound spectrum : Minimax wins very easily in my book, now they all sound different to say the least so pick the one that makes you grin.
But if you buy a ( brand X ) Mini *just* for " best bass " or whatever, I feel really sorry for you ...
In the meantime the Minimax ASB sounds better than the Minimax and I don't have the money.
