It's kind of unspoken secret that Zebra 3.0 might add sample import, with all its implications. As we make 0.1 versions a year, this will take some time though (even though 2.4 is being skipped as 2.5 comes after 2.3...)

Okay so we have:

Version 2.5 --> Version 2.6 --> Version 2.7 --> Version 2.8 --> Version 2.9 --> Version 3.0 = 5 versions * ( 1 year / 0.1 versions ) = 50 years.

47 years old + 50 years = 97 years old.

I can't wait that long.

No, I think he meant that zebra gets a .1 every year, so you'd have FIVE years to wait.

Regarding sample import, then I'd suggest a proper multisample support (sfz)
Just let its Sound do the talking: http://www.synthmaster.com/

I'm a bit worried about samples in Zebra. I'm afraid that once samples hit the Zebriverse, this is what people will concentrate on. Rather than making more well thought out and dynamic synthesize sounds.

I'm thus more thinking along the lines of a "rompler module" that's pre-equipped with a cleverly designed set of transient sampels, cycles and stuff. This could be extended by additional "rom packs" which could be created by anyone with a sample packing tool. Latter sample packing tool could naturally transform sfz files, but the result might be compressed in a specific ways to save memory.

After all it isn't about the most naturally sounding sample playback ever, it is about an extension of the existing synthesis engine. As such there will have to be compromises, but there will also be massively great features (think proper graintable synthesis). I can't for my life get out of my head that sample playback in Zebra should have manipulations tools similar to Osc FX.

I must say I'm much more excited by this sort of stuff than a straight ahead multisample playback engine. One can always zebrify an sfz player :)

On a different note, would you consider implementing an LP2 mode for the XMF filter sometime?

Yep! The XMF needs an overhaul, for sure...

Indeed.

Now Zebrify's out of the bag, the primary reason for adding sample playback to Zebra becomes moot.

So Urs, what you gonna call it? Wildebeest V.1? :D

Will 2.5 contain the fix for the XMF cutoff bug in Renoise? I still have to use the .dll you've sent me, the official 2.3 download from the website still has the XMF/Renoise combo bug.

Here's the original thread about the bug:

Really looking forward to Zebrify, Zebra 2.5 and the new Uhbik addition! Looks like there are exciting times ahead for U-HE customers!
