Johnson J Station Rectified Amp Sim.............
Cool Tek, not what I do, but sounds great for what it is.

Didn't know they ever made a Pod-like thing, but I knew people who were in love with their combos. The Pod-thing is nice and cheap now too.
Lots of options out there...
Do you use it to gig or jam with other people? If so, what's the rest of your rig?
Thanks. :) I don't gig anymore so I just use the S/PDIF digital out of the J Station into the digital in of my sound card.

I spent a few days bypassing the J Station and just playing IK's new Mesa Triple Recto which does sound really good. However when I went back to playing through the J Station I finally realized what's missing from all the in the box amp sims I've used and the best word I can find is "fluidity". The analogy I make is it's like the difference between running with ten pound weights on your ankles and running without weights. With computer based sims I really have to work to get the notes out but with the J Station they just flow with ease. So now I'm using the AT3 Mesa setup to "work out" and when I switch back to the J Station it's like taking those ten pound weights off........ :)

I like Waves GTR pretty much for cleaner guitars. It is not overloaded with options, has great stomps and allows to get a decent sound very fast.

For distorted guitars I like ReValver4. It takes time to get a sound, but I am very happy with the result.

I'm using X64 on a windows 10 system. It never worked properly until I upgraded to 10. It wouldn't save any settings, so I'm just now discovering it. I just did a comparison 'song' with revalver 4, take a listen. The preset is up at the revalver forum-"A RAIN A". I think I may hold off on buying more pod farm stuff and wait for the Revalver amp profiler to spend my money on. OH but as far as impulses go, the ones from ownhammer match up nicely to the cabs in pod farm, I tried rosen IR's also, but they didn't mix as well as the ones I have to shovel through to get the 'one' -ownhammer. https://soundcloud.com/spacekid1-1/a-rain-a
I think you must tune your guitar before recording.

It's ok, it was just a test on the fly anyway. I got revolver to sound much better on the next "test" : https://soundcloud.com/spacekid1-1/mybloodydesktop

Revolvers always do much more damage with the second shot

Funny story though...

I walked into a studio one evening and they had been working on the main guitar parts all day and they were really pleased with all of the work that they had done...

Adding all of those you beaut high end studio effects...

They said to me 'What do you think"...

And I said, "Well the guitars are out of tune,so you'll have to re-record them all"

It was so,so funny...

A little deflating for them, but the truth is that if you don't get the fundamentals right,it doesn't matter what else you do,it's still going to sound like crap :tu:

One thing though, as much as I liked R4 "on it's own" I NEVER could get anything to sound good in the mix of a song.

GTR is much as you said, clean or even crunchy it could work in the context of a song imo.

I was taught a long time ago, that you don't make demos...

You make recordings...

It saves a lot of time and the focus is there from beat one ...

I've been working with R4 since it came out and I'm just now starting to barely understand the tweaking inside the amps. Maybe in a few more months I'll have some observations to share. It's a bit frustrating because no one is actively sharing what they find out about it's internal tweaks..like for instance I've just realized that all the amps behave differently to changes. Tranny impedance can make a sound looser when the value is raised in one amp, but then in another one it won't make much audible change at all. You sort of have to stick with one amp and use it all the time. I suspect that part of the out of tune sound was actually the way I had the amp tuned, which I fixed when adjusting it more for the other track. Not saying my guitar wasn't slipping because I know it was, It's a brand new guitar (3 days old) and it's strings weren't broken in yet. But, the more time I spend with R4 the more I see that it can be the best sim, it just takes way too much time.

I once though that as well, but then I got older and don't care about the playing of the patch demos...I just do them because people ask for them.

 Heh, that's funny. Out of tune guitars and/or playing both make even top amps sound like crap IMO. Many players make the lowest 0-2-2 powerchord out of tune with their playing even if the guitar is in tune and it sounds very facepalmy. I think it's very important to tune and intonate the guitar properly especially with amp sims to make them sound good.

When the guitar is intonated correctly and in tune the harmonics pop out like crazy - especially in a high gain situation...

The natural feedback you can get when those harmonics are happening is off the scale

Tuning and intonating a guitar properly is guitar 101....

Like I said earlier - when you are trained right, these things are fundamental and you just never forget them...

It's part of your DNA :tu:

You know, most what you're hearing is poor note choice and the chorus I have on it. I went back and used it again and it always sounds slightly out of tune compared to when the "again" module is turned off. But don't trust me, just download the patch and see for yourself. It actually sounds better when the tuning slips down slightly. The sharps were note choice. But as I said earlier, it's a demo of a patch, because people ask for them. But try it out :tu:
