Major kudos to you both, and loving the new look of the plugins. My only question, and I brought this up on GS as well, is that in PT11 ALL the TR5 plugs are in Other when I go to add a plugin, not spread out in EQ/Dynamics/Reverb/Harmonics/Etc. Is that intended? I would slightly prefer they be where they belong, but it's really not a big deal either way. Rock on man! :phones:
I haven't tested in PT yet but I'll pass that along to the team. Thanks for the kind words, too, I'm blushing :)

What OS and DAW are you using?

Does anyone know if it's possible to import TR 4 presets into TR 5 modules?

Post

I didn't buy the full version, and frankly just don't have any interest in anything it offers except the resizable GUI's and Mu, but even then, not enough to buy. So with that in mind: is there any benefit to upgrading my TRacks4 modules to TRacks5?

I upgraded on my laptop (secondary PC) and it honestly seemed like there was no real benefit and a few of the GUI's were actually worse. If there's no benefit, I'll just stick with my v4 plugins to avoid having to keep duplicates in my plugin folder or worrying about recall in the future. I'm on Windows so I don't expect the v4 versions to suddenly stop working in the near future.

Only reason I could come up with so far: maybe I'll want some future T-Racks module, at which point, I'll be required to upgrade. Until that day comes though, is there any other reason?

Looks, feel, sound and CPU.

I don't mean to be disagreeable at all, but some modules look better (Black76) and some look worse (432, Fairchild, LA-2A, CSR verbs), while others look similar enough not to make a difference (Neve and API EQ's). So I won't count the looks as a solid benefit. I don't know what you mean by feel. That seems intangible. The sound is the same except for an improved oversampling engine, which at best may reduce aliasing at extreme settings but certainly wouldn't be a magic bullet (would anyone be able to consistently point out the new versions over the old in a blind test - doubt it). And the CPU usage of the new versions are showing as slightly higher on my laptop, with slightly longer latency due to the oversampling change (0.8 ms versus 0.1 ms in the old versions).

This is kind of what I'm getting at, I'm just not sure why anyone with v4 modules should upgrade them to the newer v5-CS modules unless having scalable GUI's is worth buying the full version and paying the upgrade price to you. I feel like I'm missing something here, which is why I'm asking. Again, the scalable GUI's would be nice, that Vari-Mu is interesting but not necessary, and literally nothing else about the new upgrade is appealing enough for me to warrant the upgrade. So that just leaves the v5-CS updates and even those just seem to offer different GUI's with no other real tangible benefits.

I think its not a very wise decision to lock the resizing for customers who bought singles. If you pay over 100 eu for a plugin and see in the videos how its being resized only later to found out you have to buy additionaly T-racks 5 standart suite, well you follow me, huge dissapointment. Just sayin ;-)

IK isn´t known for valuing their (loyal) customers.

Win10, REAPER 5, although same thing happened in standalone T-Racks 5.

AFAIK no one has to pay for resizable GUI - all modules have them. EDIT: nope, apparently you do. well, if you have previous version, it's not like you're losing anything :D

Interesting bug: In the standalone app, when you zoom in too far on the Assembly view, it locks up the program. Zooming in to the same degree on the waveform editor is fine, though.

This is on Windows 10 x64, AMD R280 video card, 7th gen i5 3.4GHz, 16GB RAM, all drivers and Windows on latest updates.

Edit: Another crash scenario. I've had this happen twice now where I add Dyna-Mu to the processing chain ahead of One (so the order goes Dyna-Mu > One > Master Match), then when I add EQual in between Dyna-Mu and One it crashes the app. Doesn't happen every time and I can't consistently replicate it. Figured it was worth noting.

Edit2: Just seems to be something with interacting with EQual in general. I was adjusting settings on a track while playing, clicked on EQual in the chain and it crashed the app again.

You should see a dropdown (default text: "DEFAULT") in the top left portion of the plugin suite GUI.
Got it :) - I was trying to run it 'bridged' in Reaper 32-bit (don't ask), with an embedded GUI. So it's a Reaper problem.

I reckon so - create a new folder in "...\Documents\IK Multimedia\T-RackS 5\Presets\Module (on Windows). copy a few into there then try to load them.

If all is Ok then you can put the older presets in the appropriate TR5 folders.
TR5 User Manual wrote:3.3.1 - Presets backward compatibility
If you are upgrading from previous versions of T-RackS (or you have them still installed on your computer), it is possible to both read and load older T-RackS CS presets and they will work perfectly. However, the old user presets need to be copied manually from the T-RackS folder to the T-RackS 5 folder.
It looks like presets saved from T-RackS 3 are a bit too old. ;)

As an owner of almost every T-Racks plugin I would agree with that.
Considering many are switching to higher resolution displays (something I plan on doing myself soon) I would think that providing re-sizable interfaces should be standard and not part of a paid upgrade.
