how's it on the cpu? it looks absolutely gorgeous, but cpu is fairly big issue to me.

it's one of the reasons i still just bought the waldorf edition: sure they're old (and maybe limited) as hell, but they are still pretty cool and i can hardly see any hit on my cpu.

wish you best of luck with this one, luigi and aldo! :)

luigi, sure not free, but 16 slots is desired for one simple reason > be able to create mappings that match existing gm drum patterns.

ok, I understand but I always saw synthetic drum machines with less that 16 sounds, no?

also gm drum is more that 16 sounds, ??

I'm confused

well, even the old 909, which is maybe the most famaous drum-synth, has more than 8 sounds. If you have a look a odo rhythms or ironhead, you will realize that also these have much more than 8 sounds. The whole set of GM Drum sounds is 47 sounds (midi keys 35 to 81), but usually just midi keys 35 to 51-59 are used. Actually, for a drum synth it is not really necessary to have 16 different sounds to cover ther basic gm range, since for acoustic and electric bass and snare the same sounds can be used, the different toms can use the same sound, but can be just tuned, and for the hi-hat sounds different adsr settings can be used. So, actually 8 slots could be enough....

Here is the list of relevant Gm sounds:

35. Acoustic Bass Drum
36. Bass Drum 1
37. Side Stick
38. Acoustic Snare
39. Hand Clap
40. Electric Snare
41. Low Floor Tom
42. Closed Hi-Hat
43. High Floor Tom
44. Pedal Hi-Hat
45. Low Tom
46. Open Hi-Hat
47. Low-Mid Tom
48. Hi Mid Tom
49. Crash Cymbal 1
50. High Tom
51. Ride Cymbal 1
52. Chinese Cymbal
53. Ride Bell
54. Tambourine
55. Splash Cymbal
56. Cowbell
57. Crash Cymbal 2
58. Vibraslap
59. Ride Cymbal 2

cheers, akj

It depends... if you use wisely the built-in pad effects, master effects, pre/post sends the CPU load is rather low.
For future releases of the DKS more CPU optimizations are planned, and more features as well.

Thank you!
And I wish you best of luck for the new Year. 8)

Is the 7 on the Araldfx page a countdown or has it always been there?

another quick question - is it possible to create random kits while leaving all fx off? i imagine that would make creating cpu-friendly kits a breeze. :)

fabi, this is a good idea! Not only to save some CPU time (the freeze function avaiable in many hosts may help), but the sounds generated with a set of simple randomizers (just one oscillator and/or one noise source) can be a great starting point to program your own sound.

The beta 5 of DKS has been released and is available for download to all the beta testers. The manual, the randomizers, the presets, and some skins are still under development.
Obviously all the beta tester who contributed actively to the testing and/or contributed with presets will receive the final version for free.
