I hear what your saying and that's totally valid. I was thinking more about the tonal stuff which afaik can involve phase shifts at different frequencies. FWIW, in Reaper with dry/wet set to 50 and age, drive, comp, wow+flutter all at zero, I'm definitely hearing weird phase stuff, in fact it even sounds like there might be a tiny bit of unreported latency.hey212 wrote: Wed Oct 30, 2024 7:56 pmThe other stuff it does is mostly compression and distortion. It's extremely common for compression and distortion plugins to have mix knobs, with no phase issues.NAD wrote: Wed Oct 30, 2024 7:27 pm I can see adding a dry/wet just to the wow & flutter section for those who insist on using this as a chorus, but for the other stuff it would probably introduce too much weird phase cancellation stuff.

Who wants cassette tape sound everywhere ? Idiots ?
I tend not to trust what people say on forums as it has proven incredibly unreliable. Even less so Youtube sales people.
Cassette has been done before and well. Go slowly, download demos and listen that is how you work out if software is for you.
The idea bank has truly run dry for software developers.

I remember using Amp Farm on Pro Tools in 1999 and thinking "that's it, sell all your amps".Synthman2000 wrote: Thu Oct 31, 2024 11:08 am Who wants cassette tape sound everywhere ? Idiots ?

I listened to it recently and it sounds like a bee in a bottle.
Not everything is the final form of something. Things are iterated upon and improve.
I think I prefer the sound of tapewave to just about any other cassette sim.
Surely "sounding better than everything else" should count for something.

Oh interesting. Ya if the DAW's latency compensation is not spot on, and you use the DAW to do a wet/dry mix, you've basically made a homemade flanger so that will be audible. That's part of the benefit of a mix knob on a plugin, it can compensate for latency internally.NAD wrote: Thu Oct 31, 2024 10:12 amI hear what your saying and that's totally valid. Also as a last resort, if there is some kind of super unpredictable latency or phase shift coming from the section of the plugin that does filtering, they could leave that section in the dry signal path so the signals are identical, and just allow you to mix everything else.

age does appear to change a lot of internal parameters, as I can clearly hear stereo image shifting as well as new artifacts appearing when "age" is turned clockwise. maybe it does more stuff on some tape types than others, but it is quite clearly not a "filter" IMO.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Briefly tested the demo and I do prefer the Wavesfactory one.

My point was that "the filter" is so OBVIOUS and so front and center that all the other stuff gets masked to almost oblivion.Burillo wrote: Thu Oct 31, 2024 6:03 pm age does appear to change a lot of internal parameters, as I can clearly hear stereo image shifting as well as new artifacts appearing when "age" is turned clockwise. maybe it does more stuff on some tape types than others, but it is quite clearly not a "filter" IMO.
Would be nice if we could choose to minimize the filtering effect.

For those that have purchased Tapewave, yes. The fix is already applied, and we'll update the installers later today. I will of course let you know on this forum too once those installers are liveChoikdoi wrote: Tue Oct 29, 2024 3:00 pm
Will there be a notification on here once the fix is ready?

on first hearing I thing I actually prefer this plugin to my other tape degraders, but may I ask why the big size ? is it IR related? even the humongous (as is normal with softube) dirty tape is half the size of tapewave. chow tape model is a 10th of the size.
