headquest wrote: Hmmm... well I just followed your link and was interested to see that when you posted on the Mackie forum you got a response from Beno just one hour and three minutes later...

In case you didn't already realise form the content of Beno's reply, or from reading the forum elsewhere, Beno is one of Mackie's engineers, and is the public face of Mackie in providing customer support through the forums.

In his reply, Beno asked if you live in London, implying that if so... well, both he and Tracktion developer Jules Storer are London based.

So I think it's fair to say that the top Mackie Tracktion guys may have been offering you one-on-one personal support to resolve your problem... which is simply fantastic by any standards.

BUT...l you appear not to have replied to Beno's question(s) at all.

Then the next day, Beno replied again asking for further info... and once again you appear not to have responded, at least via the forum.

Perhaps you didn't realise who Beno is?

In any case it seems to me fairly clear that your attack on Mackie, and their support, is frankly quite unjustified. And I hope that if this is new information to you, then you might now withdraw your comments and change your view.
Response I got has only been:

- We have forwarded this to developer

on mail after posted report.

Then heard nothing for a week. I expected something like

- Yes, this is a clear bug, it will be fixed in next release.

No feedback.

So I registered on Forum. And Beno had a quick response asking for more info about a link that didn't work.

This info I provided and still few more tests to supply info for a quick reply(and I removed it after a few weeks from forum when nothing happended, therefore no more replies there anymore. I was really starting to get pissed).

Still no feedback.

I'm not trying to be unfair. But a company as lazy even before I'm a paying customer, indicates clearly to stay away.

But I must say, I'm not a bit sorry. On the contrary. I'm really floored working with Sonar this weekend. How they implemented multiple takes and lanes in tracks is just so nice. And looking at midi realtime effect which I never used before I'm in love, that's for sure. You can manipulate midi events any way you can think of. As onetime fixes, searching for event to select for operation, or in realtime. Not to mention the scripting languange CAS to design anything you like. Having had Jammer as King of sequencers for a year Sonar is back on the throne.

Now enjoy Tracktion. It's still very good.

Thanks for your permission. ;) You go ahead and enjoy Sonar. It hasn't gotten rave reviews for nothing. :D

I don't understand how you can call the company lazy? Beno DID respond, TWICE, to you, and you wrote nothing else in response to him. How is this Mackie's fault? Maybe I'm missing something here, but what kind of reply are you wanting from them? Sometimes, they need more info, as this was the case. Now, you didn't answer back. Doesn't sound to me like they are at fault.

I did respond to every request they had. Even with further test I made to help them to quickly find the reason and see if reproduced easily.

But as I put a short note above, I did remove those posts(3 actually) a couple of weeks later when no respons from them, as a remark that I was pissed.

It is not enough to collect information when user is crypled by the bug. You need to feed back that it's reproducable or not, and an estimate when a fix is attainable.

I don't think Mackie is aware of the gigantic pool of cracked software out there. If treating real customers with potential buy or paying customers poorly they will not have any income on Tracktion ever. Moral is lowered among users.

I been making my living from my software business for 13 years and I know what a huge problem this is. So partly it is of sadness over poor treatment from a software vendor. What I mean is why pay to be treated badly?

Worst competition for Tracktion is not Sonar, Cubase or any other. It's the illegal industri.

I hope Tracktion is very successful though. It will keep Sonar developers on their toes giving me even better stuff :D

No harm meant. I guess I didn't understand that you had erased those posts. I must have been somewhere else while I was reading.

The original topic of this thread was that Tracktion 2 is too expensive. People seem to be attaching dollar values to certain features and use those criteria to determine the "worth" or fair value of the program. Lots of comparisons to other programs also.

I look at it a bit differently, I suppose. Rather than the value of the program, I tend to look at the end result.

First, I should note that I do this just as a hobby. Realistically, I think I'm going to spend about 4 hours a week playing with Tracktion and recording/mixing down songs. Over the course of a year, that works out to about $1 US per hour. If I use this version of Tracktion for two years, heck ... I'm down to $0.50 per hour. Pretty good value in my opinion.

A second way that I look at is is based on the "value" of what I'll end up with. I make music with a bunch of guys every Thursday night. Some covers, a lot of original stuff. We've been doing it for over ten years. Some year, someone's going to get tired of doing it, or they'll have to move when they get a new job. When that happens, I'd like to have a permanent record of the music we've made together. We've already done that a couple of times in the studio, and it was great. Makes me smile every time I pop the CD in and listen to it. A year from now, I'm going to have another CD of our music - one that we've made ourselves with Tracktion. What will that CD be worth? What's an album full of family photos worth? What are those videos of your kids worth? I wouldn't want to place a price tag on good memories, but I'll tell you one thing - that CD will be worth at least $199 to me.

Come on, guys and gals. If you played basketball fairly seriously, you'd drop more than $200 on shoes and equipment. Same with stamp collecting, hockey, watercolour painting or whatever else your'e into as a creative outlet in your life.

This is my first post here, and I have to say I'm loving Tracktion.
I think an MSRP of $199 for T2 is a good price for what you get.

Long story short,I'm in the middle of packing to move and had to pack up my studio first for the room.
In the meantime,I thought I would try and locate some free recording software and go from there.
My first attempt at computer recording was Cubase VST several years back.
After using it for 8 months, and printing out the whole manual I just gave up.
It just never worked right.
I vowed never to use a computer for recording again, and bought a hardware Daw instead.

Just as luck would have it,when I was looking for a recording software Mackie was giving away Traction.
I bought a USB keyboard with audio I/O and haven't looked back.

I'm truly amazed at how easy it is to use,and the wonderful interface.
After only a short while,I have tons of free plug-ins running, and am working on a Soundfont library.
It is so easy to use,my daughter learned how to set up and run soft synths in about 15 minutes!
And she never touched a recording software before.
(Problem is now she won't get off and let me use it!):D

I just wanted to say, thanks Mackie.
Great of you to offer this free, and I will definitly be purchasing T2!
Well worth the $199 MSRP to me.

Mackie has always been one of the best companies around anyway.
My first mixer was a 1202,and then as now they offered many more features and a better build quality than the competition for the price.
It's still running strong, and is the input for pres on my computer.

I mean,do they Ever make a bad product!:)

Most of you are missing the point...

You are basing your impression of the new price of $199 on what you paid for T1. Let's see a show of hands on how many people paid the MSRP of $149 for T1... anyone out there? I doubt very many.

The bottom line is that most of you have been able to enjoy great software for only $80 (or even less) for quite a while... consider yourself blessed.

Remember... no one will be twisting your arm to get T2... more than likely it will just be your inability to control yourself... i.e: "I've just GOT to have that new THANG, and I don't want to wait until it's on sale".

If you don't like a $199 price, go find something better for the same money.
