Price is more than fair and the post works well too! Definitely worth it for the Xmas holiday downtime. I'm sure this'll be another hit!Urs wrote:Can't get Howie, anyone wanna check the article?

Well, Diva has no "Overload", thus a fair comparison would be at 0%. We spent weeks getting the "normal" distortion just right, like it is in Hans Zimmer's Minimoog (that he kindly lent to us).Ingonator wrote:And i only used 20% of the Phatty's filter drive to keep it "fair".![]()
We haven't bothered (yet) with the Little Phatty's Overload. Diva for now concentrates on the subtle smoothness of the original 70ies synth. It's all about the way the oscillators seem to melt into a coherent signal without getting too harsh "flipping points" (mind you, they're still audible!). Which I think isn't quite as pronounced in our LP.
(otoh our LP is quite vintage itself... probably needs a service already)

Wow... that's a really generous Introductary price Urs... can't wait to actually buy it!
I think we can safely say this Diva is going to be a big hit with the boys!

Yep. Just a small thing.Urs wrote:Does it sound okay?
Now it would be a good time to choose going with:
- DIVA: the dinosaur impersonator of yester-year super synthesizers.. or
- DIVA: the super sexy multi-platinum voice female superstar.
In the 2nd case you gotta find some more classy words instead of "monster" or a "beast"

I just did a second comparison with a few changes.Ingonator wrote:And i only used 20% of the Phatty's filter drive to keep it "fair".EvilDragon wrote:Diva does miss some of the high frequency "silk" in Ingo's example, in comparison to the Phatty. It is a bit sharper and more brittle sounding. As Urs said, Diva needs a "Muffle" parameter!djanthonyw wrote:So Diva is the first one? I actually think it sounds better than the phatty.Ingonator wrote:Like already mentioned i tried to reprogram one of my Moog slim Phatty presets on Diva to do a 1:1 comparison. Of course the Phatty is slightly different to the Minimoog so i didn't expect Diva to sound 100% identical.
Both examples use the same MIDI dat and no FXs (internal or external). The Slim Phatty example starts around 1:31 mins:
https://rapidshare.com/files/2939452791 ... son_01.zip
I have published a zip file of the wav file as in the MP3 i get some strange background noise which only seems to happen at some really "fat" sounds.
In the Slim Phatty example i have used around 20% of the filter overdrive. With full overdrive it sounds much more fat than the Diva example which could be corrected with a proper filter drive in a future version or an external overdrive FX (i checked it with the Schwa Oligarc Drive).
With few or no Resonance Diva sounds much fatter of course but no Resonance was not what i wanted in this preset...
IMO Diva sounds much better than any other Moog emulation before and i have not even tested the other filter models or the polyphonic mode...

Anyway i'll try to do another demo with full drive and Diva with an additional external filter Drive. Both should be closer then.
Ingo
I changed the filter settings of the Diva preset a bit and a added Schwa Oligarc Drive (with around 75% intensity) as an external filter drive FX.
In the Moog Slim Phatty example which starts at 1:32 i changed the filter overdrive to around 75% too.

In terms of "fatness" both are sounding closer now IMO.
In sounds which don't use Resonance the difference should be smaller anyway.

This sentence isn't quite right:
Especially the behaviour of the zero-delay-feedback filters, when pushed to the limits, demonstrates the advantages of this groundbreaking approach.
You could say 'filters which, when pushed [...] demonstrate[no 's'!] the advantages... etc', which would then be grammatically correct.
But then the sentence doesn't qualify any point made in the previous one in a way that the word 'especially' implies it should (hope that makes sense
EDIT: Thinking about it, just dropping 'Especially' would probably make the point that your after:
The behaviour of the zero-delay-feedback filters, when pushed to the limits, demonstrate the advantages of this groundbreaking approach.
'demonstrate' could have the s, dependant upon whether it relates to 'behaviour' (singular) or 'behaviour of the filters' (plural).
