But I don’t mind machine-based iLok at all. I really wish that was an option. iLok dongles just really suck on a laptop. They’re a liability waiting to happen. I have a 2nd gen iLok locked inside my Windows desktop, where it is safe from the liability of damage, theft, or getting lost. I will probably begrudgingly spend the $55 on a 3rd generation USB-C iLok for my MacBook just because of UAD. But I will not be happy about it.
UAD still worth it?

I also don’t like iLok Cloud. I remember the olden days back when the mere suggestion of connecting a music computer to the internet would have seen you tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. PACE and UAD ought to know better. And Roland, too.

You need only be online momentarily to transfer the licenses to an ILok, then no further internet connection is required.
Please explain how a permanent connection is required after you've transferred your licenses to an iLok.
This does not seem at all difficult to understand to me. You just seem like you don't like iLok (which is totally fine) so you pretend it doesn't exist when you make your arguments (which is dishonest and hurts your credibility).

I remember those days. The days when the Pentium 4 reigned supreme, and everyone was constantly tweaking their Windows XP machines to try to get their latency down to less than ten milliseconds, when none of us knew that soon the dual core CPU was going to come and blow our minds. We were all so innocent.jamcat wrote: Thu Jan 04, 2024 11:22 am I also don’t like iLok Cloud. My god, some people here seem to be unable to properly read (and think).
Disconnect your ilok dongle, disable network and try to use an uaudio plugin. It won't work. It communicates all the time via the ilok license manager process. You can also block this one using a firewall and see.
Now read the written requirements here, which also do not appear while ordering process, but have to, according EU law: viewtopic.php?p=8821543#p8821543
It says that you only need internet to activate/authorize the plugins. Nowhere is written that you need a PERMANENT internet connection to use it.
It also implies that an ILOK dongle was NOT required at all.
It says that it uses ilok cloud, but this does not imply that you need a PERMANENT internet connection. For example, your mac won't stop to work, if you haven't an iCloud online connection.
Really these comments are disgustingly ignorant.

So what you’re saying is if I remove the authorization system, the plugins won’t work?
What next? Will UA insist I install the plugins on my computer to be able to use them, too?

Where? I thought it was pretty clear that you need either a dongle or iLok Cloud. Anyone with a passing familiarity with the iLok system knows that iLok Cloud needs an internet connection. It's a trade-off for those who don't want to use a dongle. Machine auth is only available on the free LA-2A AFAIK.Hanz Meyzer wrote: Thu Jan 04, 2024 3:28 pmIt also implies that an ILOK dongle was NOT required at all.

Not sure if anyone has this experience but i tried mixing a jamuary project in Luna on an arm processor MacBook, but bringing the same projects to the Intel machine, crushes the CPU. Lots of stuttering.
The crazy bit is that the same plugins used in other hosts don’t consume as much as they do in LUNA.
No instruments, just moderate use of effects.
Anyone else run into something similar?

UAD are relatively harmless - Asus are way worse: after I removed my laptop's battery the whole thing would not at all run anymore
without the power-supply being plugged into an outlet! Can you believe that? Asus claim it's a mobile solution, but in fact it requires a power-outlet to run - completely outrageous!

Tell me about it! There's some dumbass running around talking about permanent internet connections or god knows what and he seems like he's just incapable of understanding a dongle.
I swear, it's like watching some kid with Down's Syndrome walk into the same sliding glass door over and over when his mom is in the bathroom and can't come to open it for him.
Oh, I'm just kidding around with you, Mr. Meyzer. My areas of disagreement with you still stand, but I can see your point. If there's confusion about authorization, and especially if that confusion spills over into actual use, then UA need to write their instructions better.

This is an industry wide conspiracy. All of my laptops work this way. Surely this is illegal?jens wrote: Thu Jan 04, 2024 9:10 pm UAD are relatively harmless - Asus are way worse: after I removed my laptop's battery the whole thing would not at all run anymore
