Will be interested to hear how this goes, have been wondering about upgrading mine to this platform as well. (Wasn’t planning on 128GB of RAM though, blimey! But it makes sense in terms of memory/core if you’re doing something heavy on there.)
Naked project, 5950X was able to run 7 voices at 264hz grain rate with 1s max duration and was hovering around 75-85% cpu consumption (one track, so one core being used). I was also on 1024sample buffer though, which is what I usually work in. Patch was just the Dual Sample Engine preset with everything left alone (incl. 2 reverbs and a delay), just enabled granular & its settings (Turkey env shape if that matters with a little bit of position modulation)

That was better than expected, honestly… but if I felt compelled to reduce buffer size & was in a large project, I’d still be weary of not freezing it.
Oof, sounds like a real need for multiprocessing. Kinda ridiculous for a flagship synth to have fewer voices than CPU cores.

you mean density with grain rate at 250 Hz? with what max grain limit; 128 or 256?

the envelope shape, of course takes some processing, but me thinks every envelope, it depends perhaps, takes the same amount of processing. it must not really matter. if you modulated the envelope shape... well...

of course some position modulation, adds to the processing needed.

but back to the question: you wrote 264hz grain rate, Pigments 3, it is called density, and with max in Herz 250..

and what limit did you use: 128 or 256?

Max 256, max density, max length. Also I may have had 2 voices of unison, I forget.

I’d have to go back and try it with modulation happening, I only had slight position randomness setting, no actual position modulation.

thanks for the info. you can kill any granular, if they don't have something to kill the 'overload', Pigments 3 is an example.

i can play my own MPE presets, without problems, so... but still wondering, is there optimizing possible, or is it the design of Pigments 3; with all those capabilities; and modulations add a lot of processing. granular isn't a process, that is light on the CPU, depends also on how it is made. and the 'spectral' engine, well, also not light on the CPU.

They need to improve filters. Compare Arturia Jup8 filter to Softube model 84. Arturia resonance is so weak.

I paid 69USD for Pigments when it first came out- it really is the gift that just keeps on giving!
