Using Receptor with 2 keyboards

My standard live set-up has always been to use 2 keyboards. I was disappointed to see that Receptor only has one midi input. How can this be overcome? Is there a way of getting both keyboards into the one midi input but assigning sounds so that each keyboard can simultaneously play separate sounds (with splits or layers if necessary?)

You can also use one additional USB MIDI keyboard. Does one of your keybiards support USB? If so, what brand and model?

My favorite ROMpler has two midi inputs (Roland XV5080), which comes in handy since all I usually want to take when I play out is the rack with my Roland and my power amp and one or two speakers and 2 keyboards. Makes for a nice portable kit with a minimum of complication.

A solution to the OP's problem would be one of the Edirol midi patchers -- they have a standalone mode, as well as being really good USB midi devices for use with the computer.

I suspect that most people who are all about VSTi and software FX, don't play live.

actually, I can't understand the prob ?! you have 2 keys => 2x soundmachines... then you midi one keyboard to RECEPTOR ... set the channels - voila, you can play RECEPTOR via the keyboard!

Exactly!! It's the tricky programming that I'm not sure about. In all the years of doing gigs I've never had to worry too much about the intricacies of midi. :( Is it possible simply to go midi out of one keyboard into midi in of the other then midi thru to the receptor where they can both play the module transmitting separate channels?

With some boards it is.
Check your manuals to see if one of your boards has a midi merge function.
