Howdy Folks,
Forgive me if this gets asked frequently, but I would like to know how well Tracktion works for you. At present, I use Sonar 1.31. I am just about finished recording an album's worth of material with it. Although it is old, Sonar has worked very nicely for me.
So why would I be interested in another sequencer? I barely use most of Sonar's features. For the most part, I record audio. The only MIDI I use is for drum programming. No samples, no loops, nothing rewired, no softsynths, nothing like that.
So, with that in mind, how does Tracktion stack up to Sonar? Remember, I am not using a lot of the advanced stuff. I just want something that sounds good and will enable me to add some effects here and there as well as easily mix down audio. Thanks in advance for any input.

I think Tracktion would work very well for you. Especially if you just want to do recording audio. It's great for that. Tracktion doesn't get in the way. It has many advanced features that would help you should you need them, but for just getting down and recording, there's almost nothing easier.
Make sure to try the demo, as it's all about if it works for you, and not others. Good luck!

As for the Sonar vs Tracktion debate, which rages here at times (as well as Live vs Tracktion, Lunch vs everyone else, pHz the member vs pHz the moderator...) I'm not sure it's overly relevant if you're still using such an old version. The simplicity of Tracktion is probably perfect for you, judging by your requirements.

And for effects, you can apply them in any order, change orders on the fly with drag and drop, as well as apply effects to individual clips. Sonar 5 just added that feature, but Tracktion has had it all along. I have to admit, if I didn't have Tracktion or ProTools, then Sonar would be my next choice. I do love it, but it's not my favorite.

A couple of quick things on your demo hike...
1) Be sure and use a scrollwheel mouse, it's a massive help when navigating the arranger. In the Options settings on the arranger screen you can set the scroll to zoom and shift-scroll to ... erm... scroll.
2) If you need to view the whole edit, hit F5 (fits everything horizontally) and then F8 (fits everything vertically)
3) The word "Filters" refers to any of your VSTs and Tracktion's own internal effects.

I am in a similar situation. I used to use Cubase but I don't really need the full features it has. Tracktion is the perfect program for me and does everything I need. I really find it easy to use. I usually only use the midi edit for drums and it is totally adequate for this. Only since the V2 upgrade though. Since I started using it as my only sequencer I have not even thought about using any other software for recording audio.

I don't know what life was like before Tracktion. To just record audio this program is the epidomy of ease,form, function and joy. Just arm the track with the little icon, click record and rock on. You won't go wrong with this program.

Another vote for Tracktion here from a former Nuendo user. So far any issue I've had I've found workarounds for from the forum here. When I sit down to record, I'm finally thinking about the music instead of fear and doubt that I don't know all the ways of getting around the program.

I have mixed feelings about Tracktion at the moment. I like the simplicity of the interface and the feature set. I don't like the numerous bugs I keep encountering. Also, I wish the program included more Mackie designed plugins, especially a decent reverb. The included reverb is too metallic sounding for my taste.
I'm sure the bugs will get resolved in a future release, but I think I'm going to switch back to Logic until they do. I prefer the general workflow of Tracktion so I'm going to keep an eye on updates. Tracktion has lots of potential but Logic is very stable and does exactly what I tell it to do...always.
