Tracktion Software

Well... For some unknown reasons, Tracktion sometimes loses the link to my audio clips. I NEVER rename my soundbank (sub)folder names nor change my harddrive letters.
It just happens, sometimes and it's boring. My PC has been fully reinstalled yesterday to get rid of any possible bug but I lose again some links. (fortunately, no audio !)

Is it a known bug or something?

I'm still using T1, but I have never lost an audio link unless I have moved the file or renamed the file.

T2 here ... but ive personally never had it lose the file reference unless IVE changed something ...

(EDIT ... had a quick look through the beta forum and at first glance cant see anything like this having been reported before either)

I've never lost a file, either.

Wish I knew how to begin trouble-shooting this one for you.

it's happened to me on several occasions. i've never been able to track it down tho- it's far from a regular occurence. i guess i'll try to see if i can reproduce it. basically, sometimes (read completely out of the blue) i open an edit and a whole bunch of the audio clips just say "FILE MISSING!" on them (or whatever it says), when the files haven't been moved at all.

the absolute worst time was when the file chosen for the amnesiac moment was the one that i had about 200 microedits on.. there's currently no way to assign the same audio file to all clips, so i had to reassign each and every one of them.

Hi, Oxbee.

I have seen this once or twice in early pre-release versions of T2, and it was caused by having to terminate Tracktion due to a lock-up (or having Windows re-boot on you whilst it's running).

Basically, the links between the audio files and the edit are only stored whenever you exit the program, or change between the Project and Edit pages (i.e. not as part of a save). If you open an edit, do lots of file-imports into that edit and then terminate the program, on restarting, that edit will have 'lost' the links between the clips and their parent audio files.

It's actually not a disaster as you can re-link them, but it's a good idea in the meantime to tab to the Project page and back every once in a while (just press the [Esc] key twice!) to 'force' Tracktion to update its Project file.

Hope this helps - as I say, I saw this in an early version of T2 so it may well not be the case now!

T2 well i was interested in this but it was bought off a one man development crew and then patched up to try to compete with power houses like Cubase and Sonar is just a marketing hype dream, Ive seen nothing but compatability problems on these very forums no less. "And youde think all the money they have they could develop a sequencer that can do midi proper"
I dont care how STREAMLINED the interface is if it cant do proper midi even, only good for audio and then since its patched to high heaven its not even a full fledged DAW but has ppl thinking it is by marketing it as "ITS ALL YOU NEED" rubbish.. Look make life simple save up for Sonar 5 or Cubase.

its a good sequencer if your into audio recording only but not good for midi and cannot compete with even podium.
matter of fact just get Sonar 5 and be done with it cubase has a few bugs in it but sonar is bug free.

Meanwhile - I seem to recall with T1 there was a reason not to automatically background-update the Project file (or whenever you did a save, for example)... but I can't for the life of me remember what it was (could have been an obscure filesize/performance issue).

Anyway, Beno knows about this one and it's on the list to be sorted. Just develop an "[Esc] double-tap" to go with your [Ctrl-S] and it won't be a problem in the meantime.

Its no secret T2 is not a midi powerhouse. Did you miss something there you didnt read my post proper I said I was having problems with midi with T2 and all I see here every other day is a new problem poping up with T2, It is a fact as well that it was developed on a shoestring budget by one guy didnt you know that? after all your defending it like it was your babe or something, my gosh its a friggin hardware dont get all misty eyed over it ok, im sure there not gonna stiop development on it so im sure it will get the bugs ironed out, But Sonar and Cubase have been at this game longer than these guys who btw have the resources to make a good DAW from scratch if they wanted to instead of buying a barebones audio recorder and slapping a I can do it all Label on it. Ive tried it and it cant do midi like Sonar can but Sonar can do everything it can do and more so why bother.

And if you do find in articles that a few notable ppl use this SCRATCH PAD then im sure youll also find that they already have a real host backing them up in the meantime.

just saying you get what you pay for.

And no need to play that ignore troll role remember what I said its not your girlfriend so stop acting like it its FKing Hardware it dosent have feelings it will get better with time by constant patching but dont go getting bent outta shape over this opinion of mine ok. now go take your fragile ass somewhere and get a backbone.

I give you credit ok you brought this project a long way from its begining , And had the guile and skills to get makie to buy it off you, dont know how you pulled that one off but then agian I dont know what they paid you for it either lol, still even you who are the developer know its just CODE and not something to get bent outta shape over , everyone has a opinion and its a fact its no midi powerhouse and very good with audio almost better than sonar and comming from one guy that saying alot. good luck to you phillip your certianly a gifted person.
