Cool piece, I really liked the sound of the bass. What did you use?

I think this piece could easily be modified for vocals. I guess I might go further (at the risk of being an a-hole) and say that for my taste, it seems to need vocals (or else have more going on in lieu of vocals), but what the hell do I know.

Thank you ! The bass sound comes from the Sonic Synth 1 sounds for Sampletank and it's called "Amp Dist PickBass"...
I'm not a good singer, but I love create lyrics (but I'm french and my english is too poor). Perhaps there are tons of good singers here at KVR ?

Good tune! The main thing is that you have a great sense of orchestration and composition, which doesn't always happen.

I'm also rather impressed that it's all done with one VSTi; however, I have to confess (and maybe this is only because I already 'know') that it DOES sound a bit "General MIDI"-ish in places.

If you want some free guitar work for this or any other projects, I'd be willing to help out. ;)

jeffn1, I see that you love old RUSH songs, it's funny because I'm watching the RUSH DVD "In Rio" just now !

Thank you, it's nice to you. I also play guitar myself, but It's not what I'm doing the best. Do you use Tracktion 1 too ?

I don't know why but for this song, the mp3 conversion has reduced the "punch" of the drums (especially the cymbals) that sound a little "cheap"...

Post

mp3 conversion will generally do that. It totally 'smears' the high end. :( Try OGG Vorbis to see if you prefer it!

I use Tracktion2, but the edits are forward- and backward- compatible. No matter, though, because if you ever want me to help out or do a track, I'll just export it as OGG, trimmed to an exact measure, and then send it back to you, saying, "Insert this at bar 12 of your edit" or whatnot. ;)

They are amazing, aren't they? My favorite is Hemispheres.

Quite a nice track!!!!
I agree on the vocal part, but in general the whole piece is very listeanable!!!
I find the drums a bit repetitive and linear at certain parts, but that`s ok.
BTW. Great use of version 1 of Tracktion.

jeffn1, I have listened to all of your 5 demo songs, I really love them all !
My favourite are "Fugen Daaz" and "Frenetic Passage". In the latter, the beginning is very close to the RUSH sound ! "Blitzkrieg" is awesome too. I wonder if I must buy your CD : is it possible for me here in France ?

Thanks!. Sure, you can buy it in France. In fact, for some reason, I think I sell more in Europe than in the US (not that we are talking about huge total sales :).

Also, you can check out free mp3's of all of my pieces at my soundclick.com site. Especially, check out my most recent pieces that did not make it onto Frenetic Passages: Surfing The Solar Winds and Equilibrium.

Here is the link: www.soundclick.com/jeffreynaness

(I realize I might lose the sale of the CD, but I will get over it--of course, if you want CD, that would be cool too!).

Thanks again.
