OK, this could be me, but I can't get Tracktion to control my external hardware sequencer.
The sequencer is a Sequentix P3 and its supposed to be controlled by standard midiclock signals, start, stop and general tempo control. Now I don't expect midiclk to be rock solid, but what I'm getting is really weird.
Tracktion appears to be sending something out of its ports, but it doesn't seem right.
The P3 starts on time, but then its own clock is the determining timer and not Tracktion's. The two machines go quickly out of time with each other. Also, on pressing stop, Tracktion stops, but the P3 continues on at its own tempo.
Looking at the midi stream out of Tracktion with midi-ox I can see a 'continue' signal sent when start is pressed in Tracktion. Shouldn't this be detected as a 'start' not 'continue'. Then a series of timing pulses which possibly are correct, but the fact that the P3 runs on its own tempo is very odd.
On pressing stop in Tracktion there is no stop command but the timing pulses do stop.
Now I thought the timing pulses should be present all the time, and start and stop commands should be sent by Tracktion only.
So is it Tracktion at fault, or have I got some weirdy with my system/understanding of midiclock.

It isn't you, it's Tracktion.
Tracktion's Midi Machine Control support isn't great. Instead of sending "Start", it sends "Continue". The P3 won't sync to an external clock until it recieves a "Start". You could try getting around this by having MIDI-OX translate the "Continue" signal into "Start".
As for the "Stop"--Tracktion just doesn't send it.
Basically Tracktion doesn't really have MMC support.

Yes, you're right. I have spent some more time today with Tracktion and a midi analyser and there's some odd things happening.Otterfan wrote:It isn't you, it's Tracktion.
The new beta build for the P3 will allow syncing from the 'continue' signal, but there is more problems here than just the lack of a decent start and stop.
Tracktion appears to have some problem with midiclock timing. I also made a little synthedit plugin to force a START signal just to check its not the lack of a start command that is causing the problem, but the P3 cannot lock into the clock pulses reliably to trigger in step with Tracktion.
This almost certainly isn't the P3 at fault since Cubase fires the P3 perfectly.
