Hi

I've ordered 5 books from jazzbooks.com and have received them a few days ago. however, one of the books isn't the one I've ordered but another one by the same author.

I've already sent them an email but they haven't answered yet (4 days).

I'll probably call them soon but would still like to know:

- what about the book that they've mistakenly sent me?
- should they cover the new shipping cost entirely?

It's not a pretty situation as the shipping costs as much as the book does (that's a bit over 25$)

I bought 5 oranges at a grocery downtown last week. Back home, I discovered that the grocer packed one that was moldy.

What should I do?

It's not a pretty situation as the bus fare to the grocery is as much as the orange costs (that's a bit over 25 cent)

I hear you Fette...not especially toll answer though.

I guess I wanted to ask you if they could possibly ask me to send the not-ordered-but-delivered-book back.

Which would cost me about 50% of what the wanted book + shipping would cost.

Do they have to send me the right book without asking for the other one back?

Anyway, they don't answer my emails so...

A semi serious question, how do you teach improvisation?

They should have something on their website that deals with stuff like this, also you should contact their customer department.

I did. Emails apparently don't work, although we had some corespondence before this. Never this slow though.

Well, I teach jazz improvisation. Here are some points:

a) there are some rules (that can and will be broken or bent) in jazz improvisation

b) it's like teaching a language I suppose

c) everybody can improvise to some extent

d) nobody needs improv classes but a good teacher can help (I'm sure anybody can learn through listening and copying and whatnot, what I do is helping them do it)

it's fair enough to teach improvisation! that's a silly question. you have to know scales to be able to bang out a good improvised line, so scales are a must. also, it's good to have a few tricks and tips about it to be any good.. for instance, a big wank of notes without space is generally bad, so you'll want to at least know that. the melodies that come out will be new, but you can't improvise well if you're not any good, and having a teacher can definitely help in that respect.

They should cover the shipping costs as it was their mistake. I'd suggest a firm but polite correspondance pointing out that you ordered 5 books (not a trivial order) and may buy more in the future if they are upright in their dealings with you.

haydxn, this won't help you with the book situation, but have you checked out Chordspace yet? Check the KVR news for it - it's an ace VST for assisting on picking out some cool chords when inspiration has left you.
