Using a graphics tablet (i.e. Wacom) for 'performing' music?

Hi folks,

I am aware that the wonderful (and rich) folks who have a Kyma sound system are able to use a Wacom Graphics Tablet as an actual controller to morph, glide, and transition their sounds in a live performance manner.

I would be really intruiged by doing the same thing but to use the graphics tablet as a MIDI controller, thus it could send MIDI data from which you can control any MIDI integrated music package and/or VSTs.

Is there any software out there that will convert the signal of the tablet into MIDI data?

Note that as well as the 3 dimensions XYZ, you also have the tilt angle of the pen and also 'brush / eraser' modes which could be taken advantage of so there is more potential here then a simple mouse-based XYZ script.

Anyone in the know here?

the guys who just released live slicer (see instruments forum) seem to be working on something along those lines, according to their 'products' site...

at the very least, if you find no other useful stuff, you can always use your pen just as a mouse on an XY pad. my XYZControl (on my website) is resizable and i've had plenty of fun using my pen, although i currently don't know how to get the pressure amount, so the 'z' control is controlled by mousewheel.

Ooh thats very much what I was looking for, especially that MIDItab, I hope that the people who said they were going to write their own programs to do this are still interested in it..
