Hi everybody,

How do you record the MIDI output of Groove Agent (for instance) onto MIDI track in Tracktion? In Cubase, you just select "Groove Agent" as the MIDI input in the MIDI input drop-down menu instead of your MIDI keyboard - but that doesn't seem possible in Tracktion..?

Hope you guys can help!

Kind regards

Hi

You have to use a virtual midi cable (Midi Yoke) between GA's output and your track input. It used to work for me, but after a while I had a lot of issues (losing notes, etc) so I don't use GA anymore.

Post

How/where do you make that MIDI yoke connection between GA and Tracktion?

There is a way to record Midi out from GA in Tracktion without using MidiYoke or any other vsts, but unfortunately off the top of my head I can't remember what it is. Pady once made a very good explanatory post about it, but that post has disappeared off the archive of this forum somehow :(

I'm on a linux laptop at the minute or i'd try to remember how to do it. If no'one else picks this up I'll try to post something at some point over the weekend

Scratch that, I found something relevant in the archives. Pady posted about how to do this so many times I knew there had to be something still about :D

See if this helps:

The way I've done this in the past is with Directixer 2.5. It has a built in MIDI loopback driver. From GA (or whatever) you select Directixer's loopback as the MIDI out, and from your host (I use Sonar), you select the MIDI loopback as MIDI input to a new track. It seems to work, although I seldom use it. I only recommend Directixer because it encapsulates both VST wrapper and MIDI loopback in one program, but there are free MIDI loopback drivers out there if you don't need a VST wrapper. (However, Directixer also seems to work with all the plugins that don't work with Sonar's built-in FXpansion VST wrapper, so I use both)

Thanks for the tip! However, it doesn't seem to work... Tracktion seems to render (I can see the status indicator moving) and then it finishes. But no MIDI file has been generated. I've followed all the steps described in the post by Pady. Any suggestions?
