Pace is the company that makes the iLok. Halion uses the Synchrosoft dongle, a different company and a different dongle.
Receptor does not currently support the Synchrosoft dongle, but we are exploring using it sometimes in the future.

That means no Miroslav Philharmonik then (and - potentially - no SampleTank 2.5 down the road).DanTimis wrote:Pace is the company that makes the iLok. Halion uses the Synchrosoft dongle, a different company and a different dongle.

The dongle has kept me from buying it in the first place, but if it would work on a Receptor I might have reconsidered.

Good. That would pave the way to installing Korg Legacy, Philharmonik... Since Synchrosoft and iLok are the two largely used dongle systems, it makes sense to be able to plug both, specially since there is no lack of USB ports at the back.DanTimis wrote:we are exploring using it sometimes in the future.

Dan or anyone at Muse: Is this still under investigation? Any plans? Synchosoft seems to be growing in popularity, so some really GREAT synths are being excluded from Receptor-land (such as Philharmonik and Korg M1/Wavestation [KLCDE])...DanTimis wrote:Receptor does not currently support the Synchrosoft dongle, but we are exploring using it sometimes in the future.

Given the known history of significant incompatibilities between Synchosoft and iLok (many forums have users reporting issues including wiping entire systems out, losing iLok auths becuase a Syncro dongle was installed, etc.) this may be some distance away (I would even hope so, at this point.)
I too am a strongly anti-dongle person, while I believe in the developer protecting his intellectual assets, we users also have to cover our assets, ad these two do NOT play well together - it would even seem that this was initially designed INTO the chips; I believe the problems surfaced very early in the development history.

Why would you hope so?thesoundsmith wrote:Given the known history of significant incompatibilities between Synchosoft and iLok (many forums have users reporting issues including wiping entire systems out, losing iLok auths becuase a Syncro dongle was installed, etc.) this may be some distance away (I would even hope so, at this point.)
I take it the only issue people are seeing is when you have both an iLok and Synchrosoft dongle on your system. If you have only one or the other only you're safe right?
So what does it matter if Receptor supports both? The user is still quite capable of avoiding issues. They just move their lessons learned from their PC experience to their Receptor experience.
In any case, Dan's response of "sometime in the future" tells me that implementing this support is not very high on the agenda, so at least I know there is not much value in checking this forum again for a while.
Happiness is the hidden behind the obvious.

Well, I was kind of HOPING that all the ILok-with-Synchrosoft problems were just a WINDOWS thing, and Receptor is definitely NOT a windows box. The big question is, does Synchrosoft CARE enough about the Receptor market to get involved with writing a linux driver? I'm thinking probably not. And you KNOW that they are the only ones that can do it...you have to "know things" they they are not going to divulge to anyone in order to write a linux driver, or even "port" the windows one (if that's even possible).thesoundsmith wrote:Given the known history of significant incompatibilities between Synchosoft and iLok (many forums have users reporting issues including wiping entire systems out, losing iLok auths becuase a Syncro dongle was installed, etc.) this may be some distance away (I would even hope so, at this point.)

Still Dan said Muse was "exploring using it sometimes in the future" so I wish a Muse person would reply to this thread and at least let us know what's going on with this. Should we give up on Synchrosoft-on-Receptor?
