I finally got off my butt and edited the samples of my friend Cart's drumkit. Sampled this back in June and spent this weekend making this kit :).

Anyway, free for public consumption.
I'd like to hear some feedback in terms of the samples and kit.

EDIT:
Finished the kit, it is now been dubbed 'Cart Frogrock v3'. Lotsa layers & samples recorded in December (all new cymbal samples!). Alot more sample trimming & tweaking (many samples completely re-cut for longer tails). This version is completely dry, no reverb, no eq, no compression. All samples are raw/unprocessed.

Download the kit here:
Frogrock Kit v3 - RAR file - 12.0MB
or
Frogrock Kit v3 - ZIP file - 17.8MB
(both uncompress to 28.4MB)

thanks man, you should also check out the dk+ user kit page, and at least get liqih to put a link on there, if he can't actually host the file due to size. I am downloading now and will post some comments when I give it a try.

The user page is here-

cool thanks,it sounds good,I like the snare, the hihat sounds really alive ,tom sounds great, the crash sounds a bit distorted...but I don't know much about drums. But i like the kit it has character :)

oh and anyone trying this put a U in front of the kitname eg. UCCart_RocKit that way you can find it in the dropdown kit list under user kits. I only say this because it took me a while to figure out where my added kits went to

Thanks! I've always dug the sound of this kit. I see what your saying about the crash. Its not actually distorting, but it pushes the 'white noise' envelope a bit too hard, I'll try a less aggressive sample on that 1.
The higher velocity ride sample has pennies on it btw.
Good tip with putting the U in front of the filename as well.

One general question I have is
Does anyone need the open hihat to ring for as long as it currently is? :hihi:
It seems like a silly question, but I'm finding it hard bring myself to cut it, even though that single sample is 1 meg.

that is a long sample and when I really turned it up loud, after it decayed a bit ...I could hear frogs in the background? :hyper: don't get me wrong thats awesome. I really had to listen though, its at the end of the sample and very quiet.

 yeah I wondered how long it would take someone to pick those out... It was June + Florida = those damn frogs won't shut up :) We even put a blanket over the window shades & you still hear em!

I'm thinking maybe I'll cut the sample in half & do a quick fade where I cut. It might sound a lil unnatural, but most people wouldnt let a hihat ring that long anyway.

I think I'm also going to swap out the snare hits on Snare #2, they just sound a lil too dead.

aww man. leave the long sample- it sounds great and what is 1mb anyway these days??

hehe, ok 1 vote to keep the excessively long hihat hit

or you could clip it and add more velocity layers to the other hits? I don't really know the context of where a long open high hat would be used. But why do you want the kit so small?

you already guessed it, I'd like to add some more layers
(and stay under ~8 meg)

edit:

more suggestions appreciated!

note to self: although the new title is clever, quit changing the title of the thread or noone will be able to find it again to post comments

I like a long hat sizzle.. When a real drummer plays (like me...:)), there are moments when you stick the hats to sizzle whilst you proceed to the toms, having them cut out very quickly would instantly suggest:
a) sample based;
b) not a very good player with little foot control; or
c) very poor cymbals.

If you do trim it, only do it very subtly.

If you do more recording, could you do a sample of when you put your foot down on the hats and release quickly to get a splashing sound? It's hard to find these (for sonme reason no one ever seems to put them out), and my own kit is in storage. I can be useful for special fx in jazz and some rock solos etc :)
