Plugin GUI's disappearing, mouse clicks going through

Hi guys,

I've been working with the free three band version of the phase liner Eq mentioned in this thread:

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=109866

and there have been ongoing problems with the recent versions of the plug having an issue where the mouse click onto the EQ GUI occasionally will go through and click onto whtever is behind the EQ GUI, which is, more often than not, a track, and this results in the playback position changing to that new point, so it's a bit of a problem.

David McClain, one of the developers, has been very responsive in trying to work out issues, but he isn't sure about what causes this.

I also have been experiencing having the GUI very briefly disappear and reappear when clicked, and once today it disppeared completely when clicked, and it's been disappearing for an instant often when I've clicked the playback transport (stop/start) buttons in the T2 interface.

I've had similar issues with some other plugs in the past (the most consistently problematic in the past having been the Zap filter plugin). Most plugins don't do this in T2, though.

I'm bringing this up here to see if anyone already knows about this issue, if it is only a problem in T2 with various plugins (or if other hosts do this and it is more the fault of certain plugins), and if anyone has any ideas about how to either fix it, or possible angles for David to look at when he tries to resolve it.

BTW, this EQ is excellent (one of the very best digital EQ's out there, IMO) so I encourage you all to try it!

Thanks in advance,
Dave

it's know round here as the "click through" and it has been around since the T1 days. It is hard to say whether it is specifically Tracktion at fault, especially as it does it more with some plugs than others, but it is certainly a known issue.

I've noticed that during the click thru, the interface flashes white. Maybe this VST flippertronix is using exaggerates that phenomenon? Might be a good VST for testing if the click thru issue is more pronouced with it. I definately experience it. Vember Audio's Short Circuit is subject to this issue unfortunately. :(

Okay, thanks for the replies. I'll let David know that it looks like the click-through probably an interaction between T2 and certain plugs. The disappearing part may be solely within the plugin coding, though.

The eq is *very* good, well worth getting while it's free.

Link halfway down the page called the 3-band version.

The full 10-band version costs $1000

well, i'd say that it's definitely a Tracktion thing, because i've only ever seen it happen in Tracktion, but it does only seem to happen much with certain plugs.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Its being a Tracktion thing is a reasonable conclusion. Not a "logical" one in terms of pure cause-and-effect, but a reasonable one.

This happens to me every once in a while. Its pretty rare. A small annoyance really. I guess I would be more annoyed if it happened all the time.

it happens very regularly with this plug for some reason

They have taken the direct link to the 3-band download off the site now, but you can still email the developer for a copy, last chance to get this rather impressive eq for free chaps..

I don´t have this problem with the PLParEQ but with Short Circuit. This problem and the problem with the cursor freeze, Tweaking parameters locks up (freezes) cursor, are things that makes Tracktion a quite buggy experience from time to time.

It´s not a huge thing really, Tracktion is by far the most stable sequenser I have ever used, but it´s still very annoying for the workflow....(Kind of like when you are getting used to broadband and have to use dial-up for a day)

It's depressing that this issue, which I also experience with only a few plugs on T2, should befall one of the most valuable effects I have. Like a number of other things that still need to be addressed, I hope this one is dealt with by Mackie fairly soon. Having to click more than once to change a parameter is one thing, but frequently having your workflow disrupted by repositioned playback and having little or nothing to do to work around it is another.

About the only thing I've thought of to try to overcome this would be to have another plugin GUI open and slide that one behind PLParEQ so when it clicks through it would click on that instead of repositioning playback. I haven't tested this yet, though I did find out I couldn't use a "dummy" GUI, since you can't have a GUI up of a disabled plugin, so if it worked at all it would have to be done using something that was actually loaded and enabled.

my work around is to move the plugin to another screen (not much use fore those with one screen though)
