Has any user here have any proof that the 64 bit summing is better sounding than the 32 bit summing in Tracktion 2?

You're getting boring.

It's time to put this childish nonsense in Getting Started or, preferably, HPC.

Here's a simple test: mix/render using both modes, and listen back in a system you trust. If you notice a difference, use 64-bit. If you don't, use 32-bit.

Seems like a good idea to me, at least. :D

I personally imagine the returns to be SO diminished that it's not even worth mentioning. If you can't notice a difference, what's the point? Who cares if "on paper", 64-bit mixing is supposedly better? And if you DO notice a difference, you've answered your own question.

What's with people's obsession with trivial details?

Don't get upset. It's in the nature of the newbie to continually ask the same question. That's why we have a forum for it. I'm sorry you don't like the answers you're getting, but reality doesn't change because it's not what you want to hear.

Glad you like CS though.

i prefer 32 bit

the verry high end seems clearer with 64bit (IMVHO)

32bit seems to have more of a solid sound again (IMVHO)

Dunno, cake is taking their time with the demo!

nah man im not upset, im just in a buying decision and i am trying to get some user feed back on some issues that i have with software. the way i see it(and youd know from my other posts), justifying paying 10,000 smackers for something you can do on a $600 platform with the same results is worthy of research. Im in the process of actually comparing these platforms physically, but until that time the digital research goes on

also i need to mention that at times doing hip hop music, my track counts skyrocket.

Get used to 32bit mixing then. ;)

Personally I can't hear the difference, but then one of my ears is pretty badly damaged, and my room has a few standing wave problems that make truly accurare comparisons a little difficult.

I guess the logical answer is - mix at 32bit cos it is easier on your system, and render at 64bit 'cos there is no cost to doing so, and who knows, it may even help.

Exactly right, valley. Forgot about that fact. ;)

I found the 'hip hop' statement amusing, though. :D Hip-hop isn't notoriously track-heavy. Not saying that you can't have heavy track counts, just that it's not really more or less heavy than any other kind of contemporary music. In fact, some hip-hop artists have done just fine with a drum machine, a bassline, a texture track, some samples, and a vox track. Same as some rock bands have done just fine with a drummer, bassist, guitarist, and vocalist. Neither genre is by definition track-heavy, but you can have every imaginable level in between 2 tracks and 200.

The higher the resolution then better however... 32 bits float has 25 of mantissa. It's doubtfull there is really any improvement using 64 bit floats for mixing except for some tests. Yet as it isn't a big cpu drain why not?

Depending on the waves you are summing there might not be any difference at all...

2.000000 + 2.000000 = 2 + 2

Doesn't say anything. Having only two guitarists in the band didn't stop James Hetfield from over dubbing 10 or 12 rythm guitar tracks back in the day.
