Exporting/Archiving projects for use on new PC

Here's my current situation:

1. Old PC, Win98SE, T1.6 installed with probably 40 different projects; some complete songs, some just audible sketchpad ideas.

2. New PC, WinXPpro, T2.latest, installed into a new directory right up at the top of programs in a 1Tracktion folder (no more digging down through an explorer tree!)

3. Both machines connected to wireless router (new machine direct through CAT5, old machine through 802.11g card.

4. I can't get file sharing to work between the computers (some settings I can supposedly get to in 98, just aren't there - like a 'sharing' tab on a directories properties)

5. I want to get archives of my projects on the old box, over to the new box, with the smallest size (not interested in unused clips). Someone advised me on this back in the thread - I'm sure I could find it if I looked hard enough.

6. I want to maintain functionality of the old box, simply for a place to let the kiddies install their games.

What would be the most efficient way to go about this?

Here are the options that I'm down to:

1. Buy a HDD enclosure; bundle the old drive from the old box into that and then connect it up to the new machine, transfer projects over, then shove the drive back into the old PC. Alternatively buy one of the IDE to USB2.0 cables like this one for $15:

2. Get a DVD writer for the old box, install and burn the archives to DVD.

Price of the two options is not that different. DVD burners can be had for about $35 now.

Thanks for any advice you can provide (sure wish I could get the file sharing to work between the two boxes, that would simplify things quite a bit)
