Long save times

I'm noticing that some files have extremely long save times. This seems like a recent development and is really a problem during a session, as the save after recording stops things cold. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? (The files affected aren't particularly different; the same drive is being used.)

check that your drive isnt having problems

are you using an audio drive, seperate from your os drive?

how fast is your drive?

whats your track count?

there are more things to consider as well... give us more info.

Really fast separate audio drive: 10k scsi; only happens on certain files. Track count is no problem. And the tracks it happens on don't seem particularly bigger or more complex than the ones it doesn't happen on. And it never happens with Vegas.

I thought perhaps the audio drive might need defragging, but I recall reading that defragging wasn't the best idea for audio drives, that all the streaming data was already contiguous. Thoughts?

that won't help you once you start deleting files and writing new ones... Always a good thing to check if your drive needs a good defrag... You can just analyze it first, no need to defrag if its not needed.

Doesn't seems like that fragmentation is your problem though, as you say this doesn't occur in Vegas.

Some plug-ins have the habit of saving the entire sample-set as a preset each time you save the edit. Not such a bad habit depending on how the plug-in works, but time-consuming nonetheless. DS-404 is the main one I'm thinking of.
