Kontakt Reg. Issue

Hi Folks!
I seem to have a strange one here. I have updated my receptor to 1.4 beta and printed the instructions for loading and registering Kontakt2. I have loaded the libraries(including Kontakt Experience) into my receptor. I open the setup screen on my desktop and click to register the program. A screen comes up to enter my serial number but I can't enter a number! I have tried both the number pad and the numbers above the keyboard. Neither works. I minimize the screen and open any software(i.e. notepad) and can type numbers into it. I close it and maximize the setup screen and no-go. Am I doing something dumb here? I hope so 'cause I'm befuddled.
As usual, any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you click with your mouse in the first number field before starting to type?

Yes I did. I get a cursor in the box. Everything else seems to be working fine.

Can you connect a keyboard directly to Receptor? You would have to connect the keyboard before you boot.

I'll give that a try tonight when I get home from work. I'll let you know if it works.
Thanks!

Just gave your suggestion a try Dan, No go. Neither a keyboard plugged into the desktop or directly into the Receptor will allow me to enter the numbers. The "num lock" does turn on and off when I plugged the keyboard in directly but will not enter numbers into the registration screen. Any more ideas?

Are you using the numbers on the top row (above QWERTY), or are you using the keypad? I don't remember exactly, but the keypad may not work.

I tried both and neither worked. I tried this on two different keyboards with the result.

I would like you to try the following:
  • 1. On the MIX page, try to save a new multi or single patch. Type a new name for the patch and use numbers. If you can type numbers, then we can eliminate a hardware problem with the keyboard, or an OS problem. If you cannot type numbers, there is no point in trying the rest of the steps, we will have to try something else.
  • 2. While Holding down the control key, click on the multi button on the MIX page to clear Receptor of any instantiated plug-ins. We want to eliminate the possibility of a plug-in interfering with the process. Go to the SETUP page and make sure zload is disabled. We want to make sure there are no "hidden" plug-ins in the zload cache. Click on "Register Plugins" then on "Kontakt 2" and then without any delay click in the first number field. You should see a white vertical line blinking. Try typing your serial number.
  • 3. If it still does not work, on the SETUP page, click on Uninstall Plugins. In the dialog that follows, select Kontakt 2, then press OK. On your computer mount the Receptor disk. Open the "Drop Installers Here" folder, then inside it there is a folder called "Installed." In the "Install" folder you will find the file "kontakt2-2_0_0_002-4.mrpk" Move this file one folder up in the "Drop Installers Here" folder. On the SETUP page in Receptor click the Install button. Try again the "Register Plugins" button and typing the numbers.
  • 4. If it still does not work, go to plugorama.com and download the installer for Elektrik Piano. I assume you do not have it, and did not install it yet. This installer is less than 9 MB, so it should download fast. Install Elektrik Piano and try to register it. You will not be able to pass beyond the serial number dialog because you don't have a valid serial number. But, can you enter numbers for Elektrik Piano?
If everything fails, please send an email to support@museresearch.com with your Kontakt 2 serial number and we will send you a small installer that will force the process past this first step.

Not good. I tried to save both a single and a multi patch on two different occasions, neither worked. By the way, I had just finished working in Cubase for about two hours without a problem entering numbers(adjusting tempos, etc.)so I would eliminate the keyboard as a potential problem. What else would you suggest?

Do you have a USB or a PS2 keyboard? What about the mouse? Is it USB or PS2?

I used a PS2 keyboard plugged directly into the back of the Muse. I removed this keyboard from my everyday computer that works fine. The keyboard and mouse on my DAW are a Logitech cordless PS2 combination that control all of my other software without an issue.

Post

This is extremely strange. If you had a broken keyboard, it would not work in Windows. If the Receptor PS2 keyboard connection is broken, it should still work via Receptor Remote. If Receptor Remote is broken, it should work with the keyboard connected directly to Receptor. The chances that both the Receptor keyboard connection and Receptor Remote are broken at the same time are extremely low.

Do you have a USB keyboard that you could connect directly to Receptor?

I'll take one home from work tonight and try it. I'll let you know later today if it works...

One thing you could try is connecting a monitor directly to Receptor, connecting the USB keyboard directly to Receptor, then hitting the Delete key as soon as you power up to get into the BIOS setup. Is that working? Can you use the Return key, escape key, and the arrow keys to navigate the BIOS setup? Don't change anything in the BIOS, please.
