pretty much wondering what the difference is in using energy XT as an effect or instrument inside of tracktion. any advantages, disadvantages? does it matter?

Yeah... hrm, not too sure, to be honest. The VSTi version will also work the same as the VST effect version when it comes to that sort of thing. Of course, the VSTi adds other functionality not available in regular "VST effect", but the reverse is not true.

Only difference as far as I can tell is that one accepts audio in, while the instrument only takes MIDI. Which is a quite important distinction, I suppose.

hmm okay. im using ext mostly for my multi out vsts which is rather nice having all my drums in there routed to seperate outs, one tidy little package. having to use 5 different tracks or so (and not being able to single click open the vst in the rack), just to route all my seperate drum hits was nagging at me in tracktion.
