using racks for guitars!

Hey everyone,

I figured out a really really good solution for single guitar tracks to really make them wide and huge without using smoe phase-creating widener.

Do this:

Make a rack
drop in two pan/vol filters in
drop in two instances of blockfish or compression of choice
drop in your choice of amps and/or overdrive
make the output of tracks into the amp/ovrdrv into the compression into the panvol filters to the line out, each individually
Pan the two filters opposing L/R I say hard pans

Bam.

Isn't this a bog-standard use of the racks? Except, not as good as darcy's suggestion?

Since we're on the subject, though-- also send the dry signal through and blend it back in a little. It'll return a bit of punch to over-distorted tracks.

thats why i even posted this i never even thought of it. i think im going ot be using racks much much more

It shouldn't if you are careful with the offsets.

I do this kind of thing a lot for DnB basslines. The center will be mostly dry sub bass, but the left and right channels carry hard panned versions of the same signal, but each passed through a slightly different Amplitube patch.

Once I've got the sound I want, I do a quick mono check to make sure I have no phase issues, then I'm good to go.

Phase issues, as valley mentioned, can always be fixed by tweaking the offset. Or, you can use a tool like BetabugsAudio's Phasebug.

Not at this time. If I get around to finishing the track I'm working on at the moment I'll upload it for you. Mostly what happens though is that work or other such stuff pulls me away from a tune for so long that I lose the flow of it and it never gets finished.

That's why I tend to spend more time mixing otrher people's stuff these days. I can go back to that at any time and pick up where I left off.

Rules are actually pretty simple - this is what is common each month: 1. A time length, 2. specifics about the .mp3 file submitted to include tags for song title and artist, 3. File naming convention to comply with contest rules.

The themes are open enough to allow for all kinds of music styles and preferences.
