No peaks recorded in Vegas 5 - HELP ???

Okay, I am *more* than willing to pay for DPMP if I can get it to work in Vegas.

I followed the Quick Start guide for Vegas, (yes, I kept the DPMP GUI open and on-top) but when I hit "play" and it is supposed to record all of the peaks, here is what happens:

- as the track plays, I see the envelope "slide" up and down with the peaks ... it slides as a FLAT LINE ... there are no "points" and no additional control points are generated. The entire straight line of the envelope just slides up & down in time with the audio level.

- after I stop play, there are no "multiple control points" generated ... it looks nothing like the picture in the pdf guide. Obviuously, if I cannot get the multiple points to generate, then it isn't doing what I need it for.

QUESTIONS:

Could be there is a checkbox parameter or some set-up in Vegas that I need to change in order for the generation/record to work properly?

Are there issues with different systems (DirectX, etc) that might cause this?

I know I am not the only one who has seen this problem, but I can't find a fix.

PLEASE HELP if you're out there ... I am on a deadline!!!!

THANKS!

Ack!

I just remembered the machine I am on runs Vegas 4 and not Vegas 5 ... does DPMP work with v4 or do I need to move to another system?

Thanks!

Hi,

this issue normally occurs when the GUI is not active... Make sure that you use the directX version, not the VST version with a VST adapter (that usually doesn't work very well).
The DirectX plug-in was tested in its early days with Vegas 4 as far as I remember (*EDIT*, well it seems I was wrong!), but I can only guaranty that it works with Vegas 5.

I am currently downloading Vegas 4 demo, I'll tell you if it works.

All right, I have found the issue: Vegas 4.0 does not support real time automation recording. I have tried with many directX plug-ins and they all behave the same. Then I found the reason from the Vegas 4 documentation:
Click to position the cursor in the timeline and use the controls in the Audio Plug-In window to adjust effect parameters at the cursor position. The envelope is updated as you adjust the plug-in's controls.
You can only record automation envelope point after point, which isn't really useful with DPMP...

To sum up: Digital Peak Meter won't work with vegas 4.0, you need at least vegas 5.0 to have it work.

Hey, thanks a bunch for checking ... I discovered the same thing yesterday. Since I was able to switch machines, I worked it out and met my deadline. Thanks for the plug-in ... will be purchasing it in the next week. At least now you can add "requires Vegas 5 or 6" to the documentation at the site.

Have a Merry Christmas!
