Exporting an audio file is messed up (!!!!!)

Now im very unhappy.
Yesterday i was exporting 4 tunes for a client.
2 of it was exported wrong - automation was all messed up, and i dont know what else. I exported it one more time changing volume of one track. And everything exported ok (but now can i be sure?).
Second tune exported ... without one of the tracks - of course the one with automation on it. Whats interesting - i have exported this tune several times having this channel untouched - not even one time - and everything was ok.

I was exporting with 1xrendering, 32 bit (i remember problems in previous versions with exporting with lower settings).
Is there a way to export the songs exactly as they _sound_? I think it should be no.1 option.
And to be sure - just before an export i have saved edit. So i can see what should be exported ... :help:

A problem I've found in T1 and T2 consistently. Some don't have this problem at all. I use plenty of VST instruments and it seems to affect those the most. Easiest workaround to record what you hear is a plugin called Tapeit2 :)

I've never had the problem, but as audiobot202 alludes to, I don't use virtual instruments (or automation for that matter) much, so I might have just escaped unscathed.

I used to get it from time to time with V1. Once I got in the habit of starting all my songs on bar three it became less frequent. I've not had it happen so far with T2, but I also no longer use a lot of the VSTs that it seemed to happen with most frequently.

This one seems like it should be easy to narrow down to certain VSTs, or automation usages...

Ah, I also start my songs on bar 2. Dunno if that matters. 3 would be better, though-- to keep the bars at least at even numbers for pop/rock songs! Never thought of that...

I've never had it drop an entire ttrack, but it sometimes won't render a particular track propperly. Notes will cut out.

I have the same problem with both 1.6 and 2. It is really annoying and bugs the hell out of me. For me it delayed loopes/gotout of sync and messed up notes. It really sounded like shit.

My solution was tape2it, nice app.

But that shouldn't have to be a problem. This is a bug and should be fixed.

I also think VSTi's are most affected, so it may be a bad VSTi engine or something.

Oh, and I also encouraged the automation errors you describe..

even numbers? like 3,5,7,9,11,13 :?

not the best choice of words IMHO :hihi:

when i started making music i allways wonderd whay dosent it start at 0?

then the 8'th bar woul be on bar 8 :)

any way sorry for taking it off topic

I stopped using the rendering tool of Tracktion. That's just too crappy and unreliable (not up to T but to badly coded plugins). You're lucky when u hear what's wrong. But subtle things are not immediately heard so I can't trust it.

I use Voxengo Recorder, or TapeIt. Far better and 1:1 copy of my mix.

At least make sure you rewind, then play a bar or two and then rewind to the start of the song again before you render.
I always bite my nails when I render. Some times it does that stupid mistake with automation...

Some times I set up eXT at the master out and record in a sequencer track there, so I can hear what's going on...

Maybe it should be an additional option in next update to tracktion? Something like Tapeit2, but build-in.

It should clearly be. Coming from the famous "soundtrackers", I know that rendering has always been an issue. At this time, we didn't have third-party things in the program and despite this matter of fact, we HAD bugs after rendering.
Soundtrackers were simply the real first virtual studios and things like Digital Tracker (Falcon) were professional applications used to do professional work.

But I remember we had problems with rendering at this time, and a lot of users were using tricks to avoid this.

In studios, a lot of engineers don't use the rendering thing. They record their tracks on external multi-track system like Pro Tools or Alesis things. (can't remember the name)

So... I really think an alternative should be proposed to rendering because it's a matter of fact: it does not work properly.

Wierd... i render from T 1.6 all the time - plenty of automation and virtual instruments - and i've never had a problem... (but i always use 16bit, and I *don't* use 1xrendering)

Could it be a plugin issue rather than a Tracktion issue?

Different for different people I guess *shrug* I've always had problems with certain plugins and plugin combinations. Some of them are gone and some of them are still there in T2. I don't trust render now, so I just use Tapeit. It's highly annoying but works.
I'm sure it is an issue with the code of certain plugins, but to be honest, if you are an end user and you've just spent $200 on an instrument which works fine in Ableton Live or another host and screws up in your favourite Tracktion host, you're not going to be particularly happy are you? It's like when a webpage renders perfectly in IE but screws up royally in Opera. You can blame the code all you want, but at the end of the day, if you need the webpage, you aint gonna use Opera to view it are you?
The bugs need to be ironed out. They have been there a long time now and don't seem to be a high priority. If the render option is in Tracktion, it should be usable across a broad range of plugin/audio/midi combinations, otherwise it's not trustworthy and therefore bug ridden. If other hosts can do it, and do it consistently, I see no reason why Tracktion should not be up to par.

Thanks guys... I've had a few issues myself, with VST's like StormDrum, missing bars when rendering. Some other VST's too, I don't remember all details (I don't want to think about it). Even when freezing tracks the sound is not what it should be, and without freezing my CPU gets too hot.

Good suggestions to use TapeIt or eXT. Of course I have both, but always tried to figure it out in Tracktion instead of using an easy workaround.
