Sorry, it must be something really obvious, but I'm stuck. So, when a plugin does not come with its own presets browser, how do you change presets? I found how to load an *.fxb, then what?

You can click on the preset list in the properties panel, then use the up/down arrows. Or you can use these: < > buttons to scroll through presets of the plug-in in focus.
