is there a way to record midi as audio in tracktion2 wiyhout an external mixer?

Stick a VSTi in the filter section of the MIDI track and render!

Indeed! An external mixer is completely irrelevant to turning your MIDI into audio.

Yup. Unless you want to record the output of a hardware MIDI module... is that the deal?
