How do I get my Akai samples that are on cd into kompakt? I realise my computer can't see the aiff files, so what's the process of getting them onto Receptor from my cd?? Not really any experience on soft samplers...

Kompakt is a sample player with a fixed library, I don't believe you can add your own content. Kontakt 2, on the other hand, can import Akai libraries from CD. The upgrade from Kompakt to Kontakt 2 is $269, a good deal given the excellent 15GB library included with Kontakt 2 and its other features such as Giga import and convolution FX.

That's not true ~ I've done it with over 30 of my own.
Below are directions for a vocal sample-set named 'Gospel Whoas'; simply insert your own. I had to create an appropriate folder:
IMPORTING AND SAVING INSTRUMENTS INTO KOMPACT
In the folder Vocals create a subfolder called "GOSP WHOAS A Samples" Copy all the .wav files needed for "GOSP WHOAS A.nki" in this subfolder.
In Kompakt click on "BROWSER" The browser will open on the left side (you probably have done this already). In the top half of the browser navigate to c:/Samples/My Ninstruments/Vocals. Make sure you select "Vocals" by clicking on the text. If you click next to the text it will not select it. In the bottom half of the browser you should see "GOSP WHOAS A.nki"
If you click on the "+" to the left of "Vocals" you will see the subfolder "GOSP WHOAS A Samples" If you select the subfolder you will see all your .wav files in the bottom half. THAT IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. You should not go to the .wav files. You should have "Vocals" selected in the top half of the browser so that you can see "GOSP WHOAS A.nki" in the bottom half of the browser.
Drag "GOSP WHOAS A.nki" to one of the 8 instrument slots. If you started with an empty Kompakt you should see "1: EMPTY" That is where you need to drag "GOSP WHOAS A.nki" not over the keyboard.
When you drag "GOSP WHOAS A.nki" over an instrument slot, it is very likely that you will get a dialog saying that a sample cannot be found. Click on the "Find" button, then in the open dialog navigate to "GOSP WHOAS A Samples" and select the .wav file that Kompakt could not find. You should see the file name that you need to select in the field "File Name." After you click "Open" another dialog will ask you if you want to use the same path for the remaining samples. Click "Yes"
If everything goes according to plan you should have now the entire instrument loaded. Now click on the "SAVE" button to the left side of the instrument name that is displayed towards the top right corner. This is the save for Instrument, not the save for Multi. Save the instrument with a different name, or if you are brave you can save it with the same name over the original instrument file ("GOSP WHOAS A.nki").
Let's save you saved it as "GOSP WHOAS A2.nki" Now you can start from scratch to test that it works. Open the browser, navigate to "Vocals" and drag "GOSP WHOAS A2.nki" over an instrument slot. Now it should load without asking to you find the samples.
• You need one last step. After you loaded "GOSP WHOAS A2.nki" click on the "Save/File" button at the very top right of the screen. This is the button for Receptor patches, outside of the GUI for Kompakt. Create a new bank called "Vocals" and save a new patch called "GOSP WHOAS A" Now you can load this patch from the front panel, via MIDI program change, or from the MIX view of the GUI for Receptor.
Once you load this Receptor patch, you can save a new Receptor Single, or a new Receptor Multi that contains this patch and it will load the right samples at the right key ranges.

Thats great, but the stuff I have is in Akai S1000 format and my computers cd-rom drive does'nt recognise anything on the cd. Do I need to convert them? The NI webpage says Kompakt recognises Akai. Do I need to use something like Chicken Systems Translator?
