Question to all of the boxed T2 users who have downloaded the new mixing tools: How do they hold up?
Is the reverb any good?

I really hope Mackie decide to let us download customers get in on this deal somehow. I wouldn't mind paying a bit if the effects are good.

Same for me.
I start to be very disapointed by Mackie's attitude with this point. No answer to my PM, and looks like they are just silent.
If they give me the hand, I don't want the arm but I think it would be just fair to give us these plugins.

I've posted on this subject on the Mackie forum: beno replied, saying that they are basically still looking into the whole non-US customer situation. I am keeping my ear to the ground.

It wouldn't be difficult to actually offer them as a retail bundle now would it?
I do believe that many users are simply asking to be able to actualy pay for them. It's not always about a free ride.

Because we are paying Tracktion users and they are free plug-ins! What exactly does Mackie lose by giving them to every paying Tracktion user and not just some?

Mackie decided on a $20 upgrade price for the download version of T2. Not me. They said $20 and I paid it. If they had said $40 or $60 I would have paid it. At no time did Mackie make it clear that in taking the download option I would no longer be a valued Tracktion customer.

Mackie gives some free downloadable plug-ins to some users, and not to other users. They lose nothing by giving them to every registered Tracktion user.

Nobody can buy a download version now so there is no incentive in adding value to the boxed version only. Nobody can purchase these plug-ins separately so there is no monetary issue.

It is nothing but an up yours to the download users. Now the only way, as a registered Tracktion user, that I can obtain these free plug-ins, is to go buy an entirely new Tracktion boxed license and basically throw the one I got away. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Wow, that is so NOT how I see things. ;) You're entitled to your opinion.

However, you're not entitled to disseminate false information. Mackie DID make it clear from the start that the download path was a much different one, and ALSO made it exceedingly clear that this was being done as a favour to loyal Tracktioneers (they're RETURNING the loyalty with the download upgrade, not giving you a fricking "up yours") but that they wouldn't be doing the download thang moving forward.

If you either didn't see the literature, didn't participate in the conversations here, or didn't seek clarification, that's a shame and you're probably not totally to blame. But that doesn't mean the information wasn't there, it just means that you didn't come across it.

Unfortunately I don't have a lot to say either way. I know our marketing department is discussing a bunch of options regarding download to box upgrades and selling the new mackie plug-ins. We'll of course post an official statement as soon as possible but right now, I haven't been told anything new.

SOOO... We don't have to get into discussions, forums, and such. We ARE customers, simple customers.
If all was so clear, so where was the message telling :"if you decided to upgrade online, you are a minor customer, and you won't have the same updates than our major customers who paid the real price".

I don't really mind about the fact that Mackie did us a "favor" when upgrading. I mean I was happy of that but THEY just decided to do it alone. As said, I thought it was really cheap not to say it was given. However, even for 100 euros, I would have paid it and it would have remained fair.

Let's be reasonnable and stop making online customers guilty just because a company decided to make differences between their customers from the start.

I want the ability to get those plugins. The fair way is to give them to the online peoples. The less fair way is to ask a reasonnable fee for that. The unfair way is to ignore us.

It looks like they are changing their mind now according to the link above.

I can forget the "boxed" third-party tools. But I can't forget the in-house and limited-to-tracktion tools.

What you really have to understand is that I am not a NFR user!
I NEVER ask to paid 20 or 30 euros for my upgrade. I paid the full price for Tracktion 1, and I would have paid the same or even more if asked. It would have remained fair.

Of course, international customers have a different perspective, and a valid one. International customers have had a very tricky time getting the boxed deal, period!
"..if you decided to upgrade online, you are a minor customer, and you won't have the same updates than our major customers who paid the real price".
No, but what WAS said was, "you are opting to purchase the Tracktion core only," and at the time, they also elected to include some very nice Mackie plug-ins.

There's no way that a business has intentionally made its favourite customers (the original T user base!) upset. If you feel "minor", it's a by-product of an unfortunate situation, not the result of some devious plan to make you feel bad.

I don't really care about the Mackie plugs as there are good if not better freeware alternatives. The only thing that concerns me if having a download option for future Tracktion paid updates.

(I brought the $20 download version)

Unless things have changed, at the time it was heavily discussed that there would be no further download for paid upgrades. (ie. T 2.5 or T 3 or whatever)

I don't speak for Mackie, I'm not a Mackie employee (despite what some people may think. ;) ), and I have no currently-researched information because I haven't needed to look it up.

But my LAST understanding is that the T1->T2.0 upgrade would be the one and only major paid upgrade that could be downloaded.

Might want to fire off an e-mail or phone call to Mackie to confirm.

Well Greg, it's not that I think they did it intentionally. I just feel they did an error or they just regret this cheap online upgrade for the original T user base quoting you.
Most peoples are usually reasonnable. I won't ask another gift for T2.5 (if valued) or T3. I will pay a fair upgrade price and that's all.

However, I don't see the point regarding their attitude this time. Is this purely a marketing thing? Is it a tax thing? Is this just a dreadful licence policy just to do policy?

Pragmatic speaking. It is just limited-to-tracktion software somewhere on a server costing nothing to authorize to their online customers.

It's not just a position of mine just to have a position. I really would like to have these plugs because I really appreciated the compressors series and I use them everyday.

It sounds like Mackie might now be flexible on this so worth giving the thumbs up for the download option :)

I agree that there have been errors, I disagree with the logic that it should just be given away because it's not costing them anything more.

Dunno what else to say without typing a novel-lengthed opinion again. My stance has already been covered, and it gets frustrating that people just ignore your points when they start a new thread.

It's like "I'm going to present the SAME points again," but with no clear motivation. What's the motivation for doing that? It's been covered in other threads. We've heard both sides, I've elaborated at great length with what I thought were very convincing counter-arguments...

And then a new thread that starts off with a simple question ("are they good") gets turned into a stupid debate that's already been done?

No thanks.

No offence to you, oxbee-- I agree that there are errors, I disagree with some of your other points, but I walk away fully respecting you and appreciating your point of view regardless.
