Tracktion Software

Hello,

I am not sure that Tracktion is involved in my question, but I drop my question anyway.
I am using a short keyboard (36 keys) and want to play a 76 keys drums bank in myProteus X sampler.
The problem is the samples that interests me are located very down (say C-1 to C0) and my keyboard starts playing at C2.
What can I do to access a convenient way those samples ? Is there some "maping" to do in Tracktion ? I would prefer not to change anything in Proteus X...

Two possibilities:

1. Use the Tracktion "Pitch Shifter". In a MIDI-routing it works as midi-note transposer.

2. If you are on PC (EDIT: just checked - OSX as well!!!), try the (fantastic!) NDC Midi-Plugins:

AAaaah ! I'm not at home but it looks like suggestion 2 will drive me out of the nightmare I was in tonight.
I can't remember having ever seen a pitch shifter (using T 1.6). Is it coming as one of the "native" vst effect ?

The pitch shifter is one of Tracktion's "built in" effects (same as reverb, compressor, delay). You should find it in the tree under "Tracktion filters".

If you route it in the chain *before* e.g. an VSTi, it behaves like a transpose. If you put it *after* the VSTi, then it processes the VSTi's output (audio) like a pitch shifter usually does.

Sorry, I can't give you a more precise information where to find it. It's been over a year now when I switched to T2!

It always kills me how simple are the turnarounds (thanks to you and people like those from NDC...) to so big problems at first sight.

sorry if i'm misunderstanding but doesn't your keyboard have octave +/- buttons?

my little 2.5 octave roland does so I can access the low or high notes with just a couple of stabs of the octave buttons....?

Nope... I sold my former keyboard (a basic M audio 49e, but it had the octave +/- function) when I bought the Korg Legacy Collection which came with a nice MS-20 replica controller (best plugin package I ever bought - and best deal ever btw !).
Only the controller has no function for this. Enough for my needs, but a bit short when used for drums control.
Which roland model are you using ? Sooner or later I will look for a handy short keyboard with some function like this...

Unfortunately, I can't reply in French because I never learned it at school. At that time I preferred Latin and Ancient Greek...

I'm surprised the Korg doesn't have this function, I guess it's meant to be an application specific controller and not a multi-function midi keyboard.

Mine's a roland pc-160 (out of production I think...) very basic 2 and a bit octaves. no controllers or anything except for the roland pitch stick. There are loads of short keyboards around now, probably with much better spec than mine.

Yes and no: it's specifically made to be used with MS-20 vsti synth, but you can also use it with any other synth. When doing this, you have keys working, and knob controllers also as long as you have assigned them to your vsti. But nothing more than existing on the hardware "vintage" serie (no +/- octave, no programmable banks etc.) Even if it's primary function is to be used with MS-20 synth vsti, it also offers an alternative keyboard solution for my needs.

Ancient Greek ! I gave it a significant try for 3 years ! Midi tweaking is a breeze compared to it !
