Playback/Recording-Plugin Issues

Ok, so here's the thing, whenever I record something, it's always clean/direct. Even when I add a Plugin, say chorus or distortion, WHILE recording, what i hear is the CLEAN/DIRECT of the guitar and i do NOT hear the effects! When i STOp recording, and play it back, it plays back with the effects on. HOW can I fix this so that when I'm RECORDING, i'm HEARING the effects? Rather than playing it clean and recording it, then playing it back and hearing the effects????? Is this something to do with the program tracktion or is it to do with how I set up my DAW? Please let me know! THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Enable "end to end" in your audio device. Click on the input device's icon on the left, and its properties panel will appear at the bottom.

You are monitoring with 2 sources. What is your audio device? Whatever it is, disable anything called "direct monitoring" on it.
If you are hearing a REALLY noticeable echo, that's a hint to me that your latency is going to be too large for good realtime playing. Go to your audio device's settings and try to get the lowest buffer possible without making it "pop and click" in protest. Even on a modest machine, I found that a buffer of 512 samples was "usable" despite a slightly noticeable delay.

ok wait
I disabled it, but then if i do that, i can't play the file back!
Primary sound driver (l+r) = output
Primary sound driver (l+r) = input
these are the only two things enabled.... and i still get the echo sound!
If i disable output, then it's gone, but I can't play the audio back without enabling it again. and vice versa i assume if i disable the input one...

What's your sound card?
You don't want to disable output of Tracktion, you want to disable the OTHER output that's finding its way to your speakers.
I use the TonePort, for example, and I have to mute the "monitor" if I want to hear only Tracktion's signal path. On the Tascam US-122, you need to turn off a switch called "direct monitor". Other soundcards might have direct monitoring but it could be a software setting from the device's control panel.

i'm just using my motherboard's built in soundcard, i thought it was pretty nice since it has a SDIF out...
I'm gonna check the device's control panel somewhere....

i've been on this thing all day and I can't find anything even close to 'direct monitor' or anything 'monitor' in my sound card's software/config stuff!
What'e next ont he list to try?

it's definitely some other monitoring thing....when i use the distortion plugin I hear both a clean and a distorted tone from my guitar!! wtf's goin on!!!!

If I knew that, I would have helped you solve your problem by now.
I imagine that your soundcard's mixer is immediately 'playing' anything that goes through the inputs. This is monitoring. I don't know what your soundcard calls it. At the same time, it's also playing back anything that goes through Tracktion.
Now, you do NOT disable "end-to-end" globally. Just for input devices. But then you'd be monitoring ONLY the clean, which is probably the opposite of what you want to do.
So, you need to disable whatever "mixer-like" routing your soundcard is doing that's immediately playing back whatever goes into the input.
I don't say this to be snarky, but all these kinds of problems pretty much go away when you get a proper soundcard. I dealt with an SBLive and kx drivers for about a year before I finally got an M-Audio Audiophile. All those annoying concerns went away, partially because the card was meant for the task, and partially because other people with the same card could help me out.
Unless you're using ASIO4ALL, you won't get any sort of good latency from your soundcard, either... you will always have to deal with that "echo".

latency doesn't seem to be a problem with this soundcard, the echo HAs to be some sort of monitoring thing. Maybe it's how I hooked up everything?????
1)Mixer' rec out to line in of my CPU
2)speakers into a little power amp to my CPU's speaker outs
