i just got and upgraded from 7.1.1 to 7.2

most tings work just like before, but a few plugins started behave silly. Zebra 2 is one of them

when playing looped regions, for example a 1 bar loop with rapid 16ths, the first note in the loop is often "muted" or incredibly short, just a noise burst really. the fix is easy; make real copies of the loop

and the plugin never remembers its last viewed screen, always opens performance screen (but that problem was in 7.1.1 aswell)

and its really really slow to draw on the screen

which other plug-ins are behaving silly?

quadrasid has some weird timing problems, and some projects with reaktor 5 ensembles seems to have a similar problem as Zebra (some notes cut off abrubtly)

i think its timing issues all of it, something changed in the timing communication?

That sounds like the issues I have with Tracktion and Zebra - some clicks and notes cut off. They don't work perfectly together.
I tried Zebra with EnergyXT, to test if it was my PC or not, and it worked with no issues.

Superballoon,

is the last note of the loop the same as the first note?

Hmmm, I have an idea what they could've changed in loops. Will test the loop behaviour in 7.2.

Can someone send me a song file with just 1 instance of Z2 that shows this problem? -> urs [at] u-he [dot] com

Thanks,

;) Urs

no actually it isnt, but i know what you mean. this is sometimes a problem in other plugins, even internal Logic ones (even if it doesnt overlap with itself). solution is then just to shorten the last note until it works

i tried to create a simple song file with this problem, but cant reproduce it now...

but if i re-open the project with this problem, its still there.

(and if i save the channel strip from this project, and the midi data, and import this into a new file, the problem goes away...)

Uh... that sounds *weird*

Post

yes it sounds weird! i dont like reporting vague problems (i do beta testing for other products), and i dont like having these vague problems in my production environment

i´ll send you some mp3 examples of the problem tomorrow (dont have internet in the studio)

by the way - Reaktor 5.1 has the same problem i think, but somewhat different (not as often as Zebra, but still a "first-note-in-region-problem"). Kontakt 2, which i use mostly, and EXS seems to work same as ever.

definetely something changed from 7.1.1 to 7.2.

by the way, did you catch the comments about the gui. it takes forever to draw (displays a huge white rectangle for 2 secs) when opening the plugin, and it always opens the performance screen.

i wrote a 1-bar part with 16 16th notes, switched the loop on and let it play at 176 bpm using various presets: it seems all ok here. the first note in the part is played regularly, it isn't shorter.
about the screen it opens always the performance screen here too but i don't experience a too slow draw.

Heh, making the gui remember its state across openings was pretty low on my priority list. Too many small bugs have to be addressed first

The time to open the editor should be reasonably short on a G5. If it happens on a G5, something must be wrong.

However, I'll try to speed it up. As you might know, the whole layout and stuff is based on a *large* configuration file. That little script interpreter I wrote for it isn't exactly fast. It was sufficient for not-too-complex guis like Filterscape, but I guess that it should be streamlined for stuff like Z2.

Looks like I'm gonna boot my good ol' G4 450 within the next days :-o

Cheers,

;) Urs

i managed to reproduce it in a small file. i sent you an email.

regarding the gui, i have a dual G5. i filmed with my cellphone video - Kontakt 2 pops up within half a second after clikcing. Zebra 2 takes a little more than 2 seconds before its there. Dont be sad, alot of other plugins are equally slow

I realize compared to somebody writing electronic music in 1948 i dont have much to complain about...

Oki, got the file. Will check it out.
