Uniwire Latency in Pro Tools 7, via fxpansion vst to RTAS

Hi Musers,

Just wanted to let you know that I have uniwire running quite nicely on my 15' Powerbook 1.5 (1gb) within Pro Tools M-Powered, via the FXPansion vst to RTAS wrapper version 2.0, which just hit the streets. (I actually downloaded it since it wasn't yet at GC).

Anyhow, my only beef, and I think I am just missing something...is that I can't seem to get the Receptor latency any lower than 2048 while using UniWire within PT. I changed my PT buffer to 128, 256, etc and once I did that, I could no longer pass ANY audio via Uniwire, until i jacked the pt buffer back to 1024.

Im wondering if I actually need to exit/restart ProTools when I change the buffer, or is that as low as it can go....It works, but there is far too much latency at 2048 on the receptor to do any real rhythm programming. I hope I'm overlooking something simple!

Thanks, and congrats on the Uniwire. When I get all this sorted out, I can see that this is radically going to change the way I work in the studio.

PS ProTools users, make sure to uncheck "Midi Thru" or else you will be hearing double, depending on how your interface is set up.

Thanks for any input!

Which M Audio interface are you running Matt?

using the ProjectMix I/O at home, and the Ozonic on the road.

As it turns out, it seems that no matter what I do, there is no way to get the latency setting lower than 2048 on the Receptor (with a setting of 1024 in the playback buffer of PT).

If I lower the playback buffer in PT, there are no lower corresponding values to choose from on the receptor...IE, theoretically if i set a buffer of value 128 in the host, I should be able to set a value of 256 on the receptor. No such luck, at this point. It is not a given option.

It must be an issue with the VST to RTAS adapter.... I don't have v2 yet as I don't use ProTools too much anymore, but I will get it for testing purposes and see if I get the same.
Have you tried posting this on the FXpansion forum? Angus is usually pretty good at responding...

I know they are working on qualifying this wrapper for use with Uniwire, and there must be reasons it isn't supported yet...reasons such as this one. I will be patient until it is actually qualified. I am also confident that there are beta testers far more qualified than I on the case...but if you need any more information from me (MuseResearch, all ya have to do is ask.

This has been fixed in version 2.0.1 of the FXpansion VST to RTAS wrapper. 2.0.1 is in beta.

HI Dan,

I just installed the beta version of the RTAS wrapper 2.0.1, and it doesn't seem to have fixed the problem. I AM able to change the latency of the receptor to make it lower (from the uniwire plugin) and it does seem to correspond to the hardware playback buffer in PT...but the only latency setting where it will pass audio is the same one as before...1024k in pro tools HW buffer, and 2048 on the receptor. Also, some other strange behavior. Once you set it to the aforementioned settings, and everything is working (as before on version 2.0) you no longer can access the lower latency settings on the receptor, no matter if you change the HW buffer in PT or not.

Have you guys had success with this yet? Am I missing somethi8ng obvious?

-Matt

We will be doing more testing with the latest RTAS wrapper in the next few days.
