Hello,
MUTON FREE Beta 3 is available for download for the beta testers.
Here are some highlights of this beta 3:
-> New, reincarnated skin: Loox Voidex! (File menu -> Choose Skin)
-> The output of a Mixer Strip can now be routed to any Send Strip
-> You can re-arrange the order of the mixer strip plug slots (shift+drag)
-> Greatly improved mouse tool management in the Composer and Sequence Editor!
-> Composer: You can change the length of selected Parts in 1 go
-> Note Key Editor: You can change the length of selected Notes in 1 go, with extended options
-> Mixdown to File improved
-> A lot of finetunings
-> A lot of bug fixes
Beta 3 sure is a great step forward towards 1.0 Release.
But let's get things (almost) Perfect.
So please feedback your thoughts.
Thanks for your help with beta testing Muton!
Oh, and we still don't have a final name!
If you can think of a great name for this application, leave a message at http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=79 or email me directly.
You can win a Lifetime User License for this product!
Cheers,
Jo

RMIV still has the weird issues, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's not really me running the AU version and I'm simply not entitled to run the vsti version as well..?
It asks me for its serial number..

What weird issues do you exactly mean?
I tested RMIV on windows, and found that, as you reported, it indeed was silent.
That bug should have been resolved.
This is something different, right?

hm.. i aint so sure.. maybe the bug isn't resolved then
the license number makes it more complicated.. but it still feels like a bug, not like something you 'd get when the plug isn't licensed.

Yo Marco,
I just downloaded the RMIV demo on OSX (10.3.2)
No problem adding it to the database via "Add Vst Plugins".
I could also immediately make a little drum groove with it without a problem.
Mmm... let's see what Linplug says about the license number.
Could you tell: what is exactly the problem?
Doesn't it load into the database?
Or is it still silent?

yeah let's see what LinPlug are saying..
Exact prob as follows:
I load up a sound into it's interface, "press" the pad with my mouse, the sample sounds like a good un.
I try playing it with the keyboard, nothing. I create a sequence with the piano roll, nothing. I checked all the possible pitfalls (i THINK)-wrong note, wrong channel etc etc). weird one...
It's like it doesn't make the insrument -sequencer connection somehow (in my layman's terms)

I have been having problems running beta 2 and beta 3 on OSX 10.4.5 (iMac 2 GHz G5 with 1Gb RAM). No sound at all from VST instruments in beta 2 and play button does not seem to work in beta 3. It's possible I may be doing something really stupid but I did not have these problems with beta 1. All my other audio apps are working. Let me know if you require more info.

Jo...the RMIV thing is sorted, it was me hacking in a wrong serial number over and over again

this is beginning to look like a really really cool application Jo
I love the fact that it separates the automation lanes from the piano roll and that the tools pop up on fast double click.

Are you sure you properly chose a core audio device?
Go to Edit menu : Audio Setup;
This gives a list of the available core audio devices;
Choose one!
If no audio device is connected, then this will typically result in the play button not responding.
Could it be that?

Jo,
Thanks a lot for the new beta! The new piano roll interaction is truly very cool. I really appreciate your very quick action in enhancing that; it is, for me, just so crucial to be able to click and move and extend smoothly, without having to worry about. The one further addition that I think would make the interface perfect in my mind would be to have a click-and-release on a note delete that note (kind of like toggling on a drum machine). Right now click-and-release doesn't do anything, so it wouldn't be displacing any function. If you accidentally clicked on a note, the perhaps you could drag it slightly and then back before releasing, and then it wouldn't be deleted. That would (for me anyway) almost eliminate the need to switch to the eraser. (Perhaps, if you think some people don't like that, you could add it as a user-toggleable option in some preferences panel or something.)
I must confess, I still have yet to make Muton make any notes at all, though. I was running on a Dell Dimension 4550 under XP with a SB Live Value OEM, and I tried ASIO4ALL but it kept crashing. Then I went to a Dell Inspiron 8000 running XP with a SB Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA, and I tried using all three of the ASIO drivers (Creative ASIO and the 2 Audigy ASIOs) and nothing made any sounds under Muton (no VSTs, no MIDI; and I could only get the GS Wavetable synth as an option). ASIO4ALL didn't work either. The only thing I got to play was the metronome, it let out a crackling noise on the beat. However, it was quite irregular; by the 4th/5th measure, it was slowing down and then catching up.
I noted some oddities; when trying to install the CM-101 VSTi, when I tried to add a patch, it wouldn't "take"; it just kept listing all the patches as empty.
When I tried to change audio drivers while a MIDI file was playing, it crashed.
When I tried to exit without saving, it crashed.
Thanks!
Best wishes,
Francis Fung

The click-and-release thing doesn't sound intuitive for me, i mean, i think users can be unhappily surprised by it.fycfung wrote:The one further addition that I think would make the interface perfect in my mind would be to have a click-and-release on a note delete that note (kind of like toggling on a drum machine). But i do understand that you want an all-in-1 tool!
So i'll keep on thinking on that; And hey, if you have another idea for this, shout it out!
Do other audio applications run well with this asio4all configuration on that computer?I must confess, I still have yet to make Muton make any notes at all, though. I was running on a Dell Dimension 4550 under XP with a SB Live Value OEM, and I tried ASIO4ALL but it kept crashing.
And is that with exactly the same setup?
If you use these asio drivers (one by one), does Muton's Play Button work, i.e. does Muton start playing, and start moving the position line? Then I went to a Dell Inspiron 8000 running XP with a SB Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA, and I tried using all three of the ASIO drivers (Creative ASIO and the 2 Audigy ASIOs) and nothing made any sounds under Muton (no VSTs, no MIDI; and I could only get the GS Wavetable synth as an option).
Also: Do other audio applications run well with the specific ASIO driver on that computer?
Same question but in this case: Do other audio applications run well with this asio4all configuration on the Dell Inspiron 8000?ASIO4ALL didn't work either. The only thing I got to play was the metronome, it let out a crackling noise on the beat. However, it was quite irregular; by the 4th/5th measure, it was slowing down and then catching up.
True, there seems to be a bug thereI noted some oddities; when trying to install the CM-101 VSTi, when I tried to add a patch, it wouldn't "take"; it just kept listing all the patches as empty.
Will be resolved asap!
I suspect these things are more related to the ASIO problems mentioned above. When I tried to change audio drivers while a MIDI file was playing, it crashed.
When I tried to exit without saving, it crashed.
So let's first research the above issues step by step and let's try to get a solid sound out of your computer(s).
Cheers,
Jo

Editing bugs: (muton Free Beta 3b)
Bug1:
Start with a empty composition
Draw a sequence anywhere.
Do not choose a part type, but draw somewhere else on the composition window.
The grey boxes are not deleted, you can build up a load of grey boxes on the composition window with nothing in them.
Minising /restoring refreshes the screen correctly.
Bug2:
Zoom vertically so that you can't fit all four tracks vertically without scrolling. i.e. you can see three tracks and half the fourth track.
Try and draw a sequence into the bottom track (track 4)
The draw function seems to draw the sequence into the track ABOVE the current cursor position. ie. into track 3 when trying to draw into track 4.
It's now impossible to draw into track 4.
In fact, if you choose the top track, the grey box is drawn in the transport area.
Zooming out does not fix it.
