Does anyone know of a free Drum step sequencer(like the one in either "reason" or fruity loops") for a host like cubase to replace the drum editor ( why one has never been implemented into it baffles me..also in commercial drum samplers like battery or rmiv ! theres microtonic , but if i remember correctly u cannot use ur own samples and didnt like the sounds it produced itself (not a reflection on the product tho !!! i've heard high praises for it - it almost sounds too good for me!)
I remember back in the old days when all i had was "little drummer boy " , " hammerhead " and a few samples....I find myself missing tht instant result thing..how it doesant interupt your creativity...the cubase production window makes me want to projectile spew and slit my wrists everytime...if i didnt need it for guitar/vocal audio tracks i would never go near it.
I am aware tht both reason and fruity loops can be used in cubase..but i dont want to put additional strain on my computer only just to use the step sequencer from it.
I am also aware of products like sonicbytes era and such...but seem to have too many features for want i want to do.
If someone could make a plug tht emulates the step sequencer from reason or fruityloops(nither which i;ve used incidently..but i;m sure its close to ones i;ve used before) i;m sure it would be greatly received by everyone..it doesant have to be feature full as i'm sure most people would like to use effects they allready own which makes the multiple outs a must), just an emphasis on drums and making loops, simple effects like reverse , volume based effects, stutter, lowpass..i really miss a simple shuffle in cubase drum editor and the feature of Double, Triple and Quadruple-hit options , ...a good velocity/accent system..simple glide for those quirky step sequecened non drum sounds..a snare roll emulator...decay..multiple outputs )
i wish i could make wht i want..i am in awe of developers who find time and will to make plugins...keep up all the great work.

This is something i've been looking for as well.
...and i agree completely - The Drum Editor in Cubase is a joke, a throw-back to 1990s - it kills the workflow stone dead. If only there was a Fruity Loops lite, just a simple VST version.
In the meantime you might want to check FXpansion Guru out - it's the closest thing i found to a simple VST drum thingy.

Guru is definitely not free
You can try Xoxos's Steps, "a port of the classic drum app 'hammerhead' with a little extra". Maybe too simple but very fun to play with...

There's Modulr's Stepchild http://subminimal.org/tools.php
and someone made an altered version of it called stepbeater, search the Tracktion (Raw Material Software) forum here for a link.

I'm sorry but, are you all mental?
Fruity loops is a better drum sequencer than Cubase?
Do you prefer Schlitz beer over Heineken also?
Cubase is an incredibly powerful sequencer. There's nothing you can't do with it.

wait, no, I do have something,
but it's not what you're asking for,
not sure if it will serve your purposes,
just a thought,
so,
I dunno,
you want it?

Hi
Thanks for all the suggestions..i didnt actually expect a reply as i know the answer is no, i;ve searched hi ho silver for it...its more a "pretty please nudge" to developers...it just seems like a simple thing to make (from the plethora of standalone groove boxes around) that would be very usefull , and it would definetly make a name for urself as a developer to entice them to ur other products..
no , i've never said the fruityloops is BETTER then cubase...i dont think anything is better then anything else with sound, its all subjective, one mans joke is another mans dream..of coz , u can just about do anything with cubase..but for me...i;m not doing elaborate realism jazzy drum tracks...i just want to be able to knock up a simple beat that grooves right so that i can get on with actually writing the track....
perhaps your right...maybe its part nostagia and i'll just be disapointed
but for sure...
yes,I am mental...

FLStudio's Drum sequencing is BETTER than cubase's - hands down. That's what FL was initially designed for.
Yes, i too am fuking nutts.
Earlier i meant to say try the Guru demo, i wasn't suggesting it was free.
