Hello all.
We, those of us running NI's B4 on Receptor, have an opportunity to upgrade to B4ii for $90. USD
We also have the opportunity to pick-up USB's Charlie for the same price.
I was thinking I'd ask Receptor users what they would do.
I've been quite satisfied with my B4; and I've heard great things about Charlie...
What do you think?
B4 to B4ii vs. Charlie

Hi JayVee
I've been using Charlie on Receptor for quite a while now (installed it via 'Unsupported' method well over a year ago). I also have B4ii running on Receptor as well.
I like them both, but I tend to use Charlie live more often. Any recommendation I can give lies purely with what you are trying to do with the organ plugs, however.
For me, I typically use Charlie live for a full-drawbars out tone with distortion. It is just perfect for this. B4ii has come a long way with their leslie emulation, but it still doesn't have quite the 'kick' that Charlie does for this.
Charlie's weak point is it's transition on Leslie speeds - it morphs between slow-fast (eg transition by mixing samples), which is not very convincing. Charlies other weak point is that you can't "play the drawbars", since you are simply playing samples of drawbar settings. I suppose you might get close to this with scene changes on Receptor with multiple instances of Charlie, but that would probably be a big waste of RAM.
So -- in much of what I play, I am doing Organ fills, where I don't need to change drawbar settings. The full on Charlie sound fills this need great (it's just a sweeter sound!), and I begrudgingly put up with the unrealistic slow/fast transitions. If my material were more Organ playing centric, I might be more tempted to use b4ii live more often.
Hope this helps. Regards,
Kevin L.

I completely agree with this.
I do think that Charlie sounds much, much better than B4 II. If you but them side by side, I think you will notice real fast that Charlie is the real deal.
