Hi there,

Please be patient with me...

I was wondering if anyone is using Twisted Lemon's SideKick v3.

I'm using it in FLS 6 but having a hard time understanding how it exactly works.. I see that it makes 4 audiochannels each time you put it on a separate channel. Also, I can understand that you can send those channels to each plugin instance.. but thats where the confusion sets in.. Lets say I have my drums on a, and bass on b.. I can hear one ducking out the other but cannot understand which one is doing what to what instance.. What the hell is diffence between ducking and keying in this thing????? :x :x :x :x :x :x

Man I miss the days when you pluggd your compressors sidechain into the inserts of your board and voila you were done..
Please someone help me on this!! :!: :!: :!: :!:

the plugin clearly states on the interface to which channel it sends, and lets you choose from which channel you whish to receive...
i noticed that with bypass engaged no audio passes thru it and it lets to receive from more that one channel, not sure this is an intended behaviour...

Sweet!... I haven't used these tranfer services before. anyway - keying is simply the inverse of that...

Debutante: Thanks that explains a lot.. One question. Is there a particular reason why you have the attack release and threshold for B all close to zero??

I set those settings to 0 simply to avoid confusion over what plugin you should have been looking at. The only thing, it seems, coming from the "0" plugin is a signal to the other compressor that tells it when to duck. The settings on the B plugin mean nothing in that particular setup.

Debutante:

Ok so basically the threshold release attack on the RECEIVING PLUG (which happens to be α) Controls the amount of "ducking" on α.. When I try it the other way around (β -> α) it doesnt duck out β properly or have the same effect as the original setup.. am I wrong in thinking that there is a set direction from α -> β -> χ -> δ ?? PLZ HELP I feel like a retard on this... This is the change..

I guess it's back to trail and error..

...it looks like all you've done is changed which sound is affecting which, and it's not really supposed to sound the same. You turned the "daddy kick" into the "mommy kick" and vice versa....

Maybe I should explain that I want to crush instruments together in FLS and then render them out separate with the ducked characteristcs (so that I can play them back without the compression effect later on). Right now I'm compressing individual instruments together, creating a duplicate compression scheme on another track, inverting the sound, cancelling out each instrument, and then rendering them back to individual sounds.. I have to edit the wav files after to get out residual sound that bled over.. This makes my workflow daunting.. plus a pain (crap shoot) when I want to add more instruments... So I guess the real question is, is there a way to render out "what you hear" in FL (separatad instruments)??
