Hey guys (and gals?)
I am a total amateur to playing along with backing tracks in a band situation i.e I have never done it. However finding a bassist and guitarist is proving very difficult to do the stuff the drummer, singer and me want to do.
SO - We maybe going out as a three piece if I can get the midi files, and somehow use my receptor to do the guitar and bass parts.
Would I just need to connect a midi file player to my receptor? How would I send a click track to the drummer? Or is there an internal midi file player I can use on Receptor with all my plugs?
Cheers
Gary,
PS, If I can do this, whats the best bass/guitar simulator vst to do the job. I can only think of Virtual Guitarist.

I have played with backing tracks and a drummer/vocalist for years. Haven't done it on the Receptor (we use an iPod for the tracks, so no question of a part losing sync or inadvertently changing patches, which has happened when we used a Roland SC-88 ad Alesis Datafile.
You could just connect the midi file player, but if you want to change patch between or during songs, you will need more prep than just patch changes - do you have a GM plug? Or if it is just guitar and bass always, should work fine.
Haven't figured out how to use them properly yet, but mp3play and sfz may help to keep the midi files in the box.
And what plug depends on style - a nice mellow acoustic guitar for Jobim tunes vs. Slayer 2 for those gentle ballads likeSpinal Tap's "Suck me Love Pump"...

Thanks for the info. I like the Ipod idea for the same reason you state, no sync issues. But how do you send the click to the drummer with an Ipod?
Yes I forgot Slayer 2, it sounds good to me

Click? I just put a hat in the track, sometimes more (latin oercussion, or just nothing on a swing tune, the drummer follows with no problem. Takes some getting used to, but not hard.
